| was formed in 2006 in Houston, Texas. The name Major Velocity was inspired by Marshall �Major Taylor, a pioneer in American cycling. |
| Major Taylor was an African American cyclist who won many races including the 1899 one mile World Championship in Montreal. It was unprecedented for an American to achieve that level of performance. Professional cycling at the turn of the century was dominated by Europeans, it is in the spirit of Major Taylor�s example of clean living, love of the sport of cycling and his dedication to excellence Major Major Velocity was formed. |
| Our Mission |
| To expose junior boys and girls from the ages of 10-18 to the best possible opportunities to compete in the sport of bicycle racing.
To operate in a charitable function in providing equipment to participate in cycling activities for those without access to such because of economic limitations, thru donations, contributions, grants, etc. To promote the sport of cycling, thereby providing education in the urban community about solving health issues and the positive effects cycling has on our overall quality of life |
| What We Do |
| Organize beginner training rides for boys and girls ages 10-18 at the grassroots level who would not traditionally be exposed to the sport because of economic limitation and give them the opportunity to ride and train with their teammates. To assist the Major Taylor Assocaition in memorailizeing Marshall W. "Major" Taylor by conducting good works in his name and educating people about his life and legacy. Participate in organized rides that raise money and brings attention to health concerns affect our community.and act as an advocacy group to promotes liveing a heathy life style. |
