When:First Saturday of each month
Meeting Time: 5:00pm-5:30pm
Meeting Place: Chapel at St Athanasius, Mountain View
Contact Person: Andy Mattioda
One of the Virgin Mary's promises at Fatima was to "I promise to help
at the hour
of death, with the graces neede for salvation, whoever on the First
Saturday of five consecutive months shall:
1. Confess and receive Communion;
2. Recite five decades of the Rosary;
3. And keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditation on the
fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation
to me."
In order to honor that promise, the MVCS group will be reciting
the Rosary at 5:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of every month. St Athanasius
offers confession from 4:00p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
If those in the group wish to attend mass together, it is at 5:30
p.m. We could also go out after mass.
How to Recite the Rosary
From World Wide Rosary
While the complete rosary is composed of 15 decades, it is acceptable
to recite five decades centered around either the Joyful, Sorrowful, or
Glorious Mysteries on a given day.
Beginning Prayers:
1.Sign of the Cross
2.The Apostle's Creed (said on the large Crucifix)
3.The Our Father (first large bead after the Crucifix)
4.Three Hail Mary's (said on the next three beads)
5.Glory Be to the Father (said on the next large bead
)
Praying Each Decade:
1.Begin by naming a mystery of the rosary and begin mediating
on that mystery throughout the remainder of the decade.
2.Recite the Our Father on a large bead.
3.Recite one Hail Mary on each of the next 10 small beads.
4.Recite the Glory Be to the Father and the `O My Jesus'
Prayer from Fatima on the next large bead.
5.Begin the next decade by naming the next mystery, and
reciting the Our Father on the same large bead. (continue steps two thru
five until at least 5 decades have been recited).
Closing Prayers:
1.Recite the Hail Holy Queen Prayer.
2.Close with the Prayer After the Rosary.
The Rosary Prayers
The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and
in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
died and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He arose
again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and is seated at the right
hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the
living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against
us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace! the Lord is with Thee; blessed art thou among
women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of
God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was
in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Fatima Prayer: "O My Jesus"
O, my Jesus, forgive us our sins; save us from the fires of hell. Lead
all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy Mercy.
Hail, Holy Queen
R: Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and
our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve! To thee do
we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears! Turn
then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after
this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus! O clement,
O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R: that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Prayer after the Rosary
R: O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech Thee,
that, meditating upon these mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed
Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
May the divine assistance remain always with us.
R: And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of
God, rest in peace. Amen.
Meditations
The rosary is divided into groups of prayers called "decades", each
of which is prayed in honor of a mystery of our Lord's life and that of
His Blessed Mother. As we pray each decade, we are asked to meditate from
our hearts on a particular mystery, while we pray lovingly to obtain the
grace of the fruit of each mystery. Following is a list of the mysteries,
and their associated fruits.
