REVIEW BY PUNKSKELM:
The town hall was a cold venue, to say the least; it should have been a
church. The guest band, Pulled from Six Feet started the show with their
brutal, metal infested hardcore. I have seen this band about 5 times and
every time they played in a hall with such terrible acoustics that I don't
really know what is going on, this time was no exception. But, they played
a tough slot and I was surprised to see that they were actually pulling
it off. They are tight, fast and hell heavy, for those who don't know, they
have two singers, one being a girl. If you are into heavy stuff, you will
most probably be amazed. I doubt that a reggae, ska or dub has ever been
played in Durbanville. The Rudimentals changed that proudly with their fusion
of the three above-mentioned genres. This band has everything a live band
should have. You get great musicians playing catchy tunes with the awesome
ability to create a mood. You can definitely party to this band; sadly no
alcohol was sold at the show and it was over in about 25 minutes, just a
taste. Spirit-Filled Hardcore hit the hall in the form of Neshamah. The
band lost their guitarist Juan a week ago and had Emokidjosh helping out
on guitar for the night. I have seen Neshamah play better shows, but this
is pretty understandable. Hope the guys find a permanent guitarist soon.
Hog Hoggidy Hog saved the evening with their supercharged punk/ska sounds.
The Hogs have been together the best part of the decade and it shines through.
From the word go they had the crowd in their hands, playing a mix of old
favorites and new material. They ended their performance with a trick George
(vocals) learned from The Heideroojes (a Dutch band that visited our little
country about 3 months ago). THE BRAVEHEART!! There is nothing more to say,
a great live performance. The Hogs seriously got the party going. New World
Inside had to have a great show. That night the local boys did not look
up to the task. Fortunately they have released an album in the last couple
of months and people were singing along word for word. In one of the songs
their drummer dropped a stick and got up from behind his drums to go pick
it up. The rest of the band kept it together, but terribly unprofessional.
They ended their show with Rock City, which I though was pretty appropriate.
Luckily New World Inside can still be fun even if they don't sound that
great.
