Over the years the popularity of the scene has grown, lot of new bands have been formed and shows are happening so frequently that hardly anyone knows when all the shows are. Unfortunately with the growth of the scene, the introduction of many new bands of a variety of sub-genres and the growing popularity and fanbases of the individual bands, the scene seems to have split up. What was once a healthy sub-culture is being divided into many different sub-sub-cultures with those involved having less and less understanding and acceptance for the other groups and in some cases, this misunderstanding is even creating condemnation towards people who essentially are all part of the same culture.
In an attempt to try and bring back that sense of unity and comradery to the scene, some of the more well known bands from different sub-genres have come together to form the Mutha City Alliance. The Mutha City Alliance will be doing a series of big shows around the Cape hoping to show to the audiences that if they can see past their differences, why can’t everyone else.
The Mutha City Alliance will consist of: Hog Hoggidy Hog - hogcore punk/ska, Aftertaste/Neshamah - straightedge hardcore, The Rudimentals - African ska/reggae and New World Inside - emotional pop/punk. All the bands involved have earned themselves well respected reputations in their particular genres and will now for the first time EVER come together on one stage to create a series of shows unlike anything the Mutha City has ever seen.
