SYNOPSIS

Shepherd Book is preaching a sermon on the moon on
Constance. It's a distraction technique to lure people from their homes
so Mal, Jayne and Zoë can break in and steal their goods. Problem is,
OTT and his crew of scavengers have been tipped off and have also raced
to the scene. The two crews are at gunpoint, arguing over who will take
the loot, but rather than risk his crew's lives, Mal elects to let OTT
take their loot. But as Mal gives the loot over, OTT says that he's
wants Mal's gun, which he had during the War of Independence. Mal kicks
the gun in OTT's face and a fire fight begins. When Zoë throws a
grenade, the sound reverberates and the villagers attending the sermon
flee, leaving Book alone.
OTT and his crew get away with the loot, and Mal leads
his crew through the sewers to get back to Serenity. Jayne is not
happy about it all, but Mal tells him to be quiet. Book arrives with a
vehicle to get them back to the ship before the authorities can link them
with the crime. However, the villagers are coming after the crew, with their
guns, and Wash is radioed to bring Serenity to them before they all
end up dead.
As they speed towards the ship, Book shows some
resentment to their situation. Onboard, Wash, Kaylee and Simon are preparing
to save their crew. Kaylee dives down, strapped into an aid, and attaches a
cable to a water tower, and Serenity lurches away, brining it
toppling down onto the villagers. When Mal asks him to come, Book shows
hesitation on his face.
Back aboard the ship, the crew aren't thrilled with
the fact that they didn't get any payment. Mal, angry, tells Inara that they
won't be dropping her off to wherever she wants to go yet, mainly because he
has a job to do. Inara reminds him that so does she and it's clear that Mal
is stalling for time.
On Whitefall, two men approach a man and ask if they
can see an agent about Malcolm Reynolds. The man says no, but he starts to
bleed from every orifice in his body. As he drops to the ground, the men are
revealed to be the Blue-Gloved Men who were after River...
