An unknown species of demon, Clem first met Buffy
when his good friend Spike brought her to the weekly poker game, where
the stakes were raised with kittens. Shortly afterwards, Clem attended
Buffy's 21st birthday party and continued his friendships with Buffy and
Spike to the point where he offered advice to them both. When Buffy
needed someone to watch Dawn while she tracked down a vengeful Willow,
Clem offered his services, but was unable to stop Dawn from following
her instincts and attempting to find Willow herself. Presumably, he
alerted Buffy to Dawn's whereabouts, which undoubtedly saved her life.
In 2003, Clem, feeling that there was nothing left in Sunnydale but evil
rising from the Hellmouth, left for places unknown, promising to return
if (or when) Buffy saved the world.
