It is really difficult to portray a person who was a noble human being, a very loving father and uncle, caring husband, obedient son, and sacrificing brother ... and of course a true and sincere artist, poet, and writer who was pure and original in thoughts. All these attributes make him a great personality and we all feel proud to be associated with him. |

|
|
Mustafa Rahi (1931-1986), an Urdu poet, wrote at a time when Urdu ghazal was going through a major transformation. Rahi was determined to keep the classical and neo-classical ghazal alive. At the same time, he was also influenced by the emerging trends in modern Urdu poetry. This is apparent in selection of his themes. He managed to remain true to the intricate rythm and balance requirements of the classical ghazal - which unfortunately few readers of Urdu ghazal admire or even understand today.
He greatly admired Jigar Moradabadi. He spent a better part of his life in preserving, compiling, and publishing Jigar's letters and quotes. He wanted to preserve the material that could provide insight into the life and mind of one of Urdu's most gifted poets.
Mustafa Rahi did not however publish his own works, preferring to remain out of the limelight. A selection of his works - Ehed Aafreen - was published after his death by Murtaza Birlas in 1993. |
