Horse riding is a sport thought to be for the wealthy, but we found a girl who is from an average family who is a champion horse rider from Western New York.  We felt that she was a great example of girl power and loved the way that she has overcome her obstacles with grace.  She told us that school, riding, family, and friends are the most important things in her life.  Here's some of our interview with this delightful Champion.

C&y:  When did you start riding?

Am&a:  I started when I was about 2 and a half years old.

C&y:  That's quite young!  How did you start at such an early age?

Am&a:  Well, my grandma's car broke down in front of a horse barn when I was 2 and a half or so.  I insisted on taking lessons until my mother said, "You can ride as long as you ask and they say yes."  When they said yes, I started to ride.

C&y:  How interesting!  Now tell me, how did you become interested in competing?

Am&a:  They saw how good I was at such a young age, and asked me if I wanted to compete.

C&y:  What was your very first competition and how did you rank among the more experienced competition?

Am&a:  I placed blue, first place because I was the only one wearing riding boots!

C&y:  Where was this and how old were you?

Am&a:  It was at the Horse-riding place where I went for lessons and I was 3.

C&y:  Wow!  That's young!  About how many competitions do you do a year?

Am&a:  Approximately 10 large competitions a year now, but I am going to Nationals this year with miniature horses.

C&y:  What type of horses do you work with mostly?

Am&a:  Miniature horses.

C&y:  Which type of horse is your favorite?  Why?

Am&a:  Miniature horses, because you can do a lot with them, including house training.

C&y:  How about best behaved in competition?

Am&a:  Neither, it all depends on the trainer and rider.

C&y:  How many blue ribbons have you won?

Am&a:  About 50.

C&y:  How many total ribbons have you won?

Am&a:  Over 200.  I have boxes full!

C&y:  What was your favorite competition?

Am&a:  States fair, because there's so much to do.  Plus, there's always great food!

C&y:  How far have you traveled with your horses for a competition?

Am&a:  Missouri, Nationals.

C&y:  Wow!  What an accomplishment!  We wish you tons of luck.

Am&a:  Oh.  Thank you!
