Yourself or Someone Like You (30" x 28")
Well now this quilt was a lot more difficult to create than Mad Season. It is made up entirely by squares of fabric ranging in size from 1/4" to 4" (finished) and took about 60 hours to complete. It was a real challenge to work in a monochromatic color palette with such tiny pieces. In order to create it, I first had a friend scan in the cover of matchbox twenty's first CD, Yourself or Someone Like You. He then placed a 64 x 64 square grid pattern over the image and printed it out for me. (I needed a small grid in order to get enough detail to create the face.) I then interpreted each square, or group of squares, in the "grid-map" as a piece of fabric. I had about 1/3rd of the face sewn together, and about 25 hours of time invested, before I could tell if it looked like a face. (I had to look through a camera lens in order to get enough "distance" to see it clearly.) I was so relieved there was a face in my quilt when I was done!
