Throwing Copper

(38" x 30")

Throwing Copper is machine pieced using the foundation piecing technique - a "quilt-by-numbers" sort of thing.  The faces are hand embroidered and all other quilting was done by machine.

I'm extremely happy with the result, especially considering the amount of reverse-sewing involved (that's "seam ripping" to those of you who have never sewn.)  This project has been in progress for about two years, however there were many months when I didn't feel like working on it and it sat neglected in the sewing basket.  If I were to guess, I'd say there were somewhere around 200-225 hours of hands-on work involved.  That includes the creation of the pattern.

The CD art is from an oil painting by Peter Howson called Sisters of Mercy.
