Messenger (20" x 24") Messenger is the third rock 'n roll quilt in the series and my first attempt a creating my own foundation piecing pattern. Truthfully, I had no clue how to create a pattern of this type. All I knew was that I needed to create the final pattern in reverse of the orientation I wanted to achieve. So I set out with pencil, ruler and graph paper to chart the image to scale at the size I wanted the finished piece to be. I studied the light and dark shades in the photo from Edwin McCain's CD and tried to make straight lines form curves. After hours of effort, and wearing down my eraser into a nub, I was satisfied with the pattern. I then had to reverse it -- so I used my glass top coffee table as a light box and created the usable pattern. Once the pattern was done, the quilt went together really fast and I'm quite pleased with the results you see here. |
