So, who is "matchbox Herb" anyway?

Well, the short answer is - Bunnyman. The commonly known  nickname for the character on the cover of matchbox twenty's second record, Mad Season. 

Want to know how I know?

When I met the band in September 2000, I asked Rob and Kyle if "Bunnyman" had a name.  Unsurprisingly, they said no.  So I asked them to name him since I further immortalized him as a quilt. (see Rock 'n Roll gallery for photos.) 

They looked at one another and Rob said to Kyle, "I'm thinking 'Herb,' how about you?"  Kyle replies, "Herb is good."  Rob turns to me and says, "His name is 'matchbox Herb.'  He's an unofficial member of the band."  So there it is...isn't that special? (Hmmm, I wonder how many other names "Bunnyman" has?)
