Performance tips

Practicing: Remember

The main point of repeating a skill is to make it an automatic part of your performance.

If you can play your notes with:

  • an accurate rhythm
  • a clear tone
  • at the right speed

You could then turn your attention to:

  • dynamics and phrasing

Then aim to develop:

  • the right mood

Repetition with the focus on the elements in the order above provides the building bricks for a good performance.

The pupils with a natural talent who can get up at 6:30am to practice are those who reach the top grades after three to four years

Practising 30 minutes each day  - a good amateur after 15 years

Practicing 2 hours a day - a professional performer after 15 years
