Express the mood and style of the piece through body language and facial expressions as your play. You should know where the most emotional high point of the piece is. This is usually the loudest point of the piece. Overdo everything. You may think that you are being very dramatic but sometimes the audience needs this to be more obvious.
Do not play as if you are in a protective box. Open out to the audience and communicate with them. This is a gift to some but others need to learn this through performing as often as possible. There is a lot of acting in music. If there is a funny passage in the music, try to convey this to your audience. Perhaps give them a wink.
