What I think
"Make love, not war!" I am a pacifist because I think claiming the lives of so many innocent beings is totally unnecessary. Some people profit from war: arms dealers, the military, governments; however, for most of the population, it is a horrendous, unforgettable event which only serves to breed fear, hate and feelings of revenge. Child soldiers are forcibly recruited in many countries and are taught how to commit atrocious acts. People are displaced from their homes, tortured and raped. They witness the brutal death of their loved ones, are themselves killed in battle or as 'collateral damage'. War has lasting psychological effects on those involved in it. Politicians may struggle to keep control of the people and keep the nation on its feet. Entire cities reduced to rubble have to be reconstructed and picturesque landscapes restored. The economy is weakened and many people struggle to survive on a meagre income. Yet war is not only a traumatic event for humans. Hundreds of thousands of animals are killed in cruel military experiments every year in countries like Israel, Afghanistan and the U.S., who are responsible for testing everything from nuclear bombs, the effects of radiation, toxic gases and missiles on dogs, pigs, monkeys, doves, mice, cats, toads and guinea pigs. The truth is that they, as well as being cruel, like the testing of household products, do not give reliable results.
