Musicians Club - Note for Note Music Night,
Thursday 20th February 2003 - Courthouse Hotel

Hi music lovers,

Hope you’re all getting your share of this lovely rain, it really puts some life back into the valley. It’s also good to see some new energy being put into this mag as well.
At the output end of the music club I must say we have had some great music provided by locals & out of towners as well, at our Note for Note night, held on the third Thursday of each month.
Last month we had Gold Coast-Brisbane band Panga & the True Blues featuring with their brand of blues & boogie. The front man of the band is Peter Panga on harmonica & rich vocals with Chris Harvey ripping on the guitar. The rhythm section is made up of the experienced John Goosey on bass & Arran Cramond on drums. If you missed them you will have to keep an ear open for when they next play at a venue near you.
On the same night we had two members of one of the hottest new local bands Max Judo playing. Lucus Proudfoot on guitar, Didgeridoo & vocals & Marty Chang on lead guitar & vocals are a treat to see. They have a great contemporary sound & with the rest of their 4 piece band have been getting regular work on the coast. Max Judo has that great quality in their playing that attracts attention from the older audience as well as the youngies.
The Muso’s club night is always padded out by members of the club using the gig for a work pad or just to keep fit & in tune or just for a bit of jolly. This is what the club gig is for, & you don’t have to be a member. You can just turn up, but if you want a definite spot on the night you should ring me on 0266 779371. If I’m not home, leave a message & I will call back. We have people at all levels of skill play on any given night, you could be the full blown pro or just starting out with your first two songs, it doesn’t matter. The crowd at the Courty is always sympathetic...but never pathetic.
The Courthouse Hotel keeps live music happening for live people so you should get down here & have a listen, play, or romance the night away.
Over the past months we have seen other local formative acts using this gig to bounce ideas off the crowd & to hone their material for the competitive market.

Dr Scrubby’s suggestions for anyone interested in playing at the gig.-Use it - feel it - have it !
Have a nice day dear people, regards Peter Hurcombe – Entertainment Co-ordinator.

I caught these two lovely ladies at the Tweed Tavern in late January and was quite impressed with their ability to play at an enjoyable volume, something that one expects from country musicians and besides they were wearing boots and hats and did Hank Williams songs, surely a way to win me over. So when I heard they were playing at the Tyalgum Hotel on Sunday arvo and the sun was shining I decided to head out and when I go there a hundred other people had the same idea, (that would get any publican smiling) so I got myself a drink and settled in for what was a great afternoon of music.

The band consists of Glenyss Rae on the piano accordian, fiddle and vocals and Tracey Bunn on vocals and guitar. Sitting in on drums was a local lad Grant Bedford and a bass player named Sam (sorry). They played a good variety of music from Johnnie Cash, Slim Dusty, Kasey Chambers and some finely crafted original songs. I must mention Glenyss Rae playing on the accordian and fiddle and could not help but think this girl has been influenced by a lot of cajun music. These two are quite a pair and seem to have a few jokes up their sleeves and are quite at home in front of an audience. I’ve been told they tour all year in Australia and overseas and are a popular act on the festival circuit.
So a great afternoon of music and a reason to wear my white hat. I hope that we see them again up this way next year.
