PRESIDENTS REPORT- 16 March 03

So, here we are, halfway through our club year. So far as I can see, we have at last regained a certain collective air of stability, enthusiasm and co-operation. Thanks go to all concerned. As a result things are going along quite comfortably at the moment and the revitalisation of the club’s newsletter is definitely something that has happened at the right time, I reckon. There’s no doubt in my mind that a regular, informative Musicians Club newsletter is an essential service to the community, at large, as well as to the club membership. I feel confident that with the proper creative input, and help with effective distribution, this vital communication will bring about even a greater sense of musical camaraderie, within our association, and place notices of our club’s activities and the diverse services of its members more into the public eye. Of course, “what goes around comes around” and such an achievement would naturally give our local music scene a well-deserved “shot in the arm”.
This leads me to a crucial issue, which is, given that club circumstances are on the up and up, I suggest we get down, A.S.A.P. to the business of developing a strategic- operations plan for our club. This need not be a complicated or drawn out process. Such a plan would ensure the proper identifying and mobilising of all available expertise and resources so that the sustaining of healthy operations would be a natural and relatively effortless matter of course. Fundamentally, to do the trick, we need a common club purpose statement, a collective agreement on the ensuing across-the-board benefits to be had and a similar awareness of the simple, commonsense values to be actively acknowledged in order to keep up, and expand on the good work that is currently happening.
In closing, I suggest the satisfactory continuation of Murwillumbah Musicians Club Inc greatly depends on two other critical factors. One, of course, is fresh ideas. So, if anyone thinks they have a good idea bring it to one of our general meeting and let’s hear all about it; a friendly hearing is guaranteed. In this case, it is also helpful to know that our club, as an incorporated community organisation, has the wherewithal to formally assist with any community-based music projects. It is also a fact that experience in such ventures can provide a sound basis for, or a boost to a professional musical career, in terms of real success. The other critical factor, I believe is that we need to hear constructive criticism. Such input is absolutely necessary to honour the Music, in a total and authentic sense, and to maintain a go-ahead club operation. So, please feel free to say your piece at a meeting, or on the quiet to one of the Club’s executive or to yours truly, which ever way suits you best.
In closing, I quote, “music is the fourth great material want of our nature. First food, then raiment, then shelter, the music”. Bovee - Cheers.
