Contents¡@After hours There are a number of public hospitals in the inner city area which provide free outpatient care after hours, but it could be a long wait.
¡@Counselling Service Students come to counselling with a broad range of problems, such as adjusting to university life, relationship issues, family conflicts, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, lack of motivation, problems with supervisor or faculty staff, study problems and exam anxiety. Counsellors help students gain a clearer understanding of their problems and help them identify appropriate coping strategies and options for action. Counsellors meet with clients individually or, if the client wishes, with their partners, family or friends. Workshops and group programs are provided when requested and debriefing can be provided when a group has suffered a trauma. Counselling at the Service is free and confidential. Appointments last approximately one hour and can be booked between 9am and 5pm, Monday and Friday, or 9am to 6pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There is an on-call service offering shorter appointments for people who need to be seen the same day. Emergencies are attended to immediately. A telephone answering service operates when the Service is closed. The Counselling Service is staffed by psychologists and social workers.
Counselling is available to all students and staff of the University of
Melbourne, La Trobe Southern Campuses and the Victorian College of the
Arts. For an appointment please telephone 03 9344 6927/8 or drop
