KAIMUN After-action Report Heidelberg American High School MUN debate team kicked off the year with a successful first conference. KAIMUN, as the Kaiserslautern conference if commonly referred to, was full of cutthroat and heated discussions despite the freezing cold auditorium. Alls schools that participated had at least 10 delegates present, and with at least 15 different schools, the room became quite crowded. Many resolutions had promise and our own, submitted by the Mexican delegate Michael Gergely, was one of the few that was seemingly accepted by all those present. Although many had promise, most resolutions were still in a primitive state of development and had come to start the process to being the best they could be for THIMUN. There were many frequent speakers from our school, including Cuba, represented by Kate Teich, Belgium, Kirsten Phillips, Israel, Sam Florence, and Rwanda Craig Lee to name only a few. Over all the conference was an outstanding success on not only a mock-political basis, but also on a more personal level as well. The conference allowed for those new to MUN to be introduced to the wonderful world of debate and for those who were returning to be able to brush up the dusty arguing skills that have been sitting in the back of the mind since the last MSC conference. Also, many people were able to see friends made at previous MUN conferences, such as the Ivanovo MUN, THIMUN 2001, and HMSC. Many Heidelberg MUN delegates were quite disappointed when they weren’t able to participate in the Ivanovo and the World Community conference in Ivanovo Russia this year, but due to the September 11th tragedy, many felt it was best to take a year off the trip. Safety is a vital key in the international and domestic travel, which could (perhaps) in the future be on a important discussion forum. But all delegates that were able to participate in the KAIMUN conference were very pleased and are excited for the ever-closer THIMUN
