In Memoriam
(5 Dec 1943 - 5 Feb 2000)
My late beloved wife is a
Javanese woman from Yogyakarta
and her name is Jukalu or Yukalu (pronounced You-kah-lew).
It doesn't seem a usual name for an average Javanese woman, but she
also has possessed another given name: Geertruida
(the equivalent for Gertrude
in English), a name given to her by her own father when she was christened just before we got married on
November 22, 1965 in
Yogyakarta.
I was stationed at
Adisutjipto Air Force Base the time I married her. We spent another 5
years living at the airbase before we moved to Jakarta
in 1970. We lived happily thereafter even until she began to seriously
complain about her physical well-beings, and the doctor cautiously
pronounced her as a renal patient
after suffering from diabetes mellitus for
almost 15 years.

One of my initial intention of posting my home page for the first time on
the Web server (done at Tripod.com in 1997), was to express
my full hope for the possible recovery of
my wife from her chronic illness, a "terminal kidney failure"
in medical terms. For that reason she had to undergo haemodialysis three times a week since
March 1995. She was very determined in her faith to live longer by
the help of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus
Christ. She seemed to be longing for her first daughter,
Nita, to get married and have a baby while she was still with us, and by
God's will she did achieve all of her wishes. On February 5, 2000, she passed away at the age
of 56, only after suffering complications from a light stroke for 5
days. Praise God !
