Nemesis: Red AnalysisRed, as usual, is mainly focused on destruction. Now one of the best creature destroyers is here. Introducing the Flowstone Overseer, possibly the most powerful red card in this set. Also the Laccoliths are introduced as you can deal damage to target creature when it's blocked. The Flowstone Overseer is a spectacularly powerful creature. Not only is it a 4/4 but it could give a creature +1/-1. That means it could pump a creature up or kill it! If unblocked it could pump itself up to a 7/1 or just kill those annoying weenies. This is almost like a Masticore without the regeneration. Laccoliths are the new themes in red. these guys can deal damage to target creature when it's blocked. The Laccolith Titan is a 6/6 with this ability. With a 6/6 your opponent can either take the damage or let you choose which creature takes it. Same goes for Laccolith Grunt, Warrior, and Whelp. This could really give you an advantage as it gives you the choice of which creature you want to kill. Mana Cache provides some interesting play as it allows you to get a lot of mana. This paired up with a Fireball can really reck havoc. The only disadvantage is that your opponent get to use some of your unused mana too. This disadvantage could easily be over come by using all your mana. With red, this isn't hard. Just use all your mana to cast out little weenies or give just play some direct damage spells. Downhill Charge can cause a huge amount of damage late in the game when you have a lot of mountains. Plus when you don't have any mana left, just sacrifice a mountain. A great card for any mono-red deck. Moggcatcher is a great addition to any goblin deck. For only 3 mana you can search your library for any goblin card and put it into play. |
