The Copy Set: NemesisWhat has Magic come to? Back in the good ol' days when a set came out, new powers, creatures, abilities, and features were always introduced. Now with the new set Nemesis out, Wizard of the Coast have shown us that they are running out of ideas. Numerous cards in this set have been a complete ripoff of the older cards. The seals, Rathi Assassin, and Rising Water are all great examples of this. The seals are a complete ripoff of the older card. They're just enchantments versions of other cards from different colors. Seal of Doom is a Dark Banishing, Seal of Fire is a Shock, and all the other seals are also duplicates. The seals aren't the only duplicates. Cards such as Rathi Assassin are also duplicates. Here's what it does: 3 Tap, Destroy a tapped nonblack creature. Doesn't that sound familiar? Sounds like the old, but more powerful, Royal Assassin. Although Rathi Assassin isn't an exact clone (Rathi Assassin cost an additional 3 to destroy a tapped nonblack creature), it's close enough to say that Wizard of the Coast has sunk a new low. Using an old ability to try to make it seem new. Tst tst. Another card that is an duplicate is Rising Waters. You can only untap one land during your turn? Winter Orb, anyone? Only this version is blue rather than an artifact. How low can Wizard go. Not only did they copied a card but they did it when it's no longer popular. What's the use? Are they missing a card in the set or something? Although many of the cards are copycats, there have been new abilities. Fading isn't that bad and Laccoliths are pretty cool. All in all there are many clones but Wizard compensates by introducing new features and abilities. |
