Single Track Loop

An absolute perfect day for riding. 70 degrees and sunny (note that Marc and Joanne are in shorts and t-shirts).

This trail is a long 6 mile loop running through the valley of Bent Creek at Lake Powhatan.

Many sections are fast and hard, but there are some grueling climbs and berms to traverse. If that's not enough, there are 3-4 creek crossings which are shallow, but good for cleaning off the bike and shoes.

Just being outside in the wilderness on a warm sunny day is enjoyable.

Technical Climb
Rhododendron Tunnel

One of the longest most technical climbs we did all week. Lots of roots and loose rocks, but you can't help but admire the scenery around you.

Some parts of this loop come out on a grassy meadow that you have to ride through, or onto wide gravel roads, that you have to cruise, to connect to another section.

This trail does have sections where you can gain some speed. We found ourselves coming back down through this tunnel which was more fun than climbing it.

Ridge Running

Pine Tree Loop is inter-connected with the Explorer Trail. Pine Tree is only open to mountain biking from October to March, so it was great to take advantage of our timing. A very narrow single track, requiring some serious concentration.
