A Poster of Your Child's Life

Please choose 2 or 3 pictures that reflect the history of your child from infancy to their present age. This is another opportunity to invite your child's participation. It is interesting to see the choices they make. Please aesthetically arrange the photos in sequence on a standard sized poster board with enough room to clearly print one very simple sentence under each picture. The sentence should describe what is happening in the picture.  (Print as opposed to cursive).
Examples: Samantha is on her first sled ride. Samantha is holding her baby sister.
Feel free to decorate the poster with a border using sparkles, stickers, stamps, or whatever strikes your fancy. The poster represents a "Celebration of your Child". The poster will be displayed for approximately one week, and will then be returned to you!
We look forward to sharing in the joy of the celebration of your child on iris or her birthday!
We thank you for your participating in this Birthday Celebration Tradition.

Birthday Book Club

It is a Montessori tradition for children to present their class with a book for either the classroom library or school library, as part of their birthday celebration. This act enables children to learn the value and pleasure of giving, and refocuses the attention away from only receiving.  It is also harmonious with the school's "spirit of giving" that is often characteristic of our holiday celebrations.
Parents wishing to participate in this tradition are requested to inscribe the book with the child's name, birthdate, and the number of birthday the child is celebrating. Bookplates for this purpose are available through our school library, should you wish to use one. You may want to donate a wonderfully written and illustrated children's story book (perhaps one you have enjoyed with your child), or an equally treasurable addition to the books related to the classroom studies. You may wish to consult with your child's teacher or with our library inventory list. It is an act of giving which will remain for children and teachers to appreciate on through the future life of our school.

Grace and Courtesy of Private Birthday Parties outside of the school:

We ask you to follow the guidelines written below in respect for the sensitivities of children around 'parties' and other social concerns.
1. Please mail party invitations from your home. Invitations given out at school always end up hurting the feelings of many children.
2. If a party is taking place after school; please allow for children to travel from the school to the party by separate vehicles.
3. Please save the exchange of presents for when the children are not on the school grounds. Gifts can always be brought to school by the person driving the child to the birthday party.
4. We also encourage the children to keep their conversation about the party for before or after they are at school.
Regardless of how subtle or discreet one attempts to be in these above situations, when handled otherwise, children's feelings always end up getting hurt.  We will appreciate your help in maintaining this consideration for the children.
