| Theme Song for 9/15/03 - 'Indiana Jones Theme Song' by John Williams 9/15/03 Hey, I am late... Sorry about not updating the page for a few days. I was out of town and it could not be avoided. Well, I went and saw the Mississippi State Bulldogs go and play Tulane in the Superdome, and well, it sucked. Leading 28-14 with roughly five minutes to play, Tulane scored 17 unanswered points to beat my beloved Bulldogs 31-28. The Dogs played well for most of the game, but when it came to do or die time, the boys choked. It took a team effort to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. But not all is lost, the team continued to show life on offense and ran for a great deal of yards (not as much as Jamal Lewis though.) 9/15/03 A Movie Review (American Splendor) I was walking back from Bourbon Street with the full intention of going to the New Orleans Aquarium, when I came across a poster saying that 'American Splendor' is playing at that time. I decided to blow off fish, hell I had just eaten one, and take in a movie. I am glad I did. To describe this movie is to talk about an amalgam of different styles and themes. It was inventive, without being pushy, it was a documentary and a full-blown drama comedy. It had romance and autistic people. This movie portrayed 'real' life as 'real' as I have ever seen on celluloid. The movie recounted the rise of Harvey Pekar from a government file-clerk to a government file-clerk who wrote comic books. One of the great lines of the movie is not even spoken. An image of a R. Crumb drawing of Pekar is placed over a mirror and it states 'now there's a reliable disapointment.' But the movie really takes off when Harvey meet Joyce, a comic book shop worker from Delaware, who can pick out psychological problems in others (David Letterman is a meglomaniac) but not herself. Pair her with the self-loathing Pekar and you have a match made in, well, a messy apartment. Anyway, to keep this shorter than the hair on a marine, go see this movie. Theme song for 9/16/03 - 'What A Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong 9/16/03 Don't give up yet... Well, I have to admit that I came close to jumping off the MSU bandwagon. However, I have taken some time to do a little thinking, and have decided that these guys need all the support we can give them. Winning cures all ills, and we are not doing it right now, but giving up is not the answer. Without support, we all fail, we cannot do everything on our own. The dogs are going through a tremendously rough stretch, but all hope is not lost. The young guys, of which there are more than a few, are getting better each day. The Houston game is now a priority, and we need to wish our guys luck, not call for the coaches head. Making those kinds of remarks are better left for the offseason. Go DAWGS and beat them damn cougs. 9/16/03 I was called interesting today... I guess I was paid a complement today by my friend Mindi. I had given her my copy of 'Slaughterhouse Five' by Kurt Vonnegut to read. A classic comedic tale of man goes crazy and lives his life in three different generations. The book is challenging to some, but I figure she can handle it. Well, she came and told me today that one of her roommates looked at the book and declared (not verbaitm, mind you) that I was 'interesting.' This is an intriging comment, and I consider it a compliment, so this shout out goes to, I believe her name is, Lauren. Thank you Lauren, you have made my day. Theme Song for 9/17/03 - 'Right Now' by Van Halen 9/17/03 The cure for common boredome... Is to find friends. I know it sounds corny, but it is true. The thing is to know how and where to do that. The likely place is church, school, work, etc... Anywhere that people gather. I am not claiming to be the chief of friend finding, far from it, but hey, you gotta try. Personally, most of my friends come from work, and a few from classes, but I have a unique problem. A lot of my older friends are my age, but they graduated and moved on, while I am still here. So basically, I am having to start over on my 'search'. Another thing that must be examined is that you should not search for friends in the first place. Friends are just people you get along with and enjoy their company. Find one and happiness will follow, I promise my faithful readers. (all two of you) Theme Song for 9/18/03 - '1000 Solemn Faces Of You' by Ben Folds Five 9/18/03 Random questions... Who was the person that owned the land MSU is on now? and do they want it back? Why does the MDOT come in here and dig large holes in Blackjack road, then fill it with agate and leave? Probably needed the asphalt to pave the driveway for Eli... Why is War Damn Beagle so hostile to me? About whether or not State will win a football game this year, or next, I don't know, do you? Does anyone else think that the basketball team could be great? Does anyone think that Albert Pujols will hit more homeruns this year than MSU's entire baseball team next year? (at least our starting pitchers will hold up) more to come... |
