One is the opening night movie, an example is any Lord of the Rings movie. Other great opening night movies are Farrelly Brothers movies (re:'Dumb and Dumber', 'Something about Mary'), and M. Night (sp)Shamalyn movies (re:'Sixth Sense', 'Signs') These are films that are enjoyed with a crowd to be sure. The second stage of movies are date movies and matinee movies. These films seem mutually exclusive, but they are closely tied to one another. Most 'date' movies are romantic comedies, which are good and all, but are not opening night movies. They are perfect for a couple to go to on a matinee (if you are cost conscious) or a first date. These are the kind of the movies where the only way you pay full price to see it is with someone. The third kind of film is the renter. A few good examples of this are '100 Girls' and 'Eight Days a Week', both great renters. The final kind is the 'wait for tv' movie. This movie is one that you have to be drunk to enjoy. A great example of this is the movie 'How High'. The only time I enjoyed that was when I was high on cold medicine. Anyway, folks, later. 9/11/03 Working hard Lately I have been getting grief about being tough to work with. I apologize for this, but please understand, I am socially challenged. Speaking to other people in that kind of setting is tough to do, and if you knew the kind of people I was friends with, you would understand where my lack of social ability comes from. I am working dilligently to correct this flaw. I want to fix this problem and move on, but others will have to be patient. BTW, my work-sister Amy, I owe you an apology, the last name Sweat is not funny, not even in the slightest. 9/11/03 My Story for this day... September 11, 2001. I was sleeping peacefully in my bed, and had unplugged the phone in my room earlier in the night. I had no idea. I awoke to the sound of my roommate knocking on my door. I beckoned him in and he said my Mom just called and told us to turn on the TV. The last thing I heard for the next hour was "Something has happened." I watched the images unfold in front of me, in horror. Adrenaline began rushing through my veins, and for the first time in my life, I wanted justice. Theme song for 9/11/01 - Silence. Theme song for 9/12/03 - 'Blue Skies' by the Allman Brothers 9/12/03 John Ritter, Johnny Cash, Warren Zevon you will be missed I awoke this morning to find a note from my roommate that John Ritter had died. This shocked me. John Ritter has always been the young at heart guy in all his work. However, it was his heart, the same one that pushed him through his great career, that ultimately failed him. John Ritter was 54 going on 13. Johnny Cash also died yesterday, but to be fair, Cash deserves more than an 'also died'. Cash was country music, as much as Willie Nelson still is, and more. His music always had a tinge of anger, and pain throughout it. It could almost be said that he was one of Americas greatest blues singers. As one person said this morning, The Starkville City Jail sits empty. Cash was 71. Last, but certainly not least, Warren Zevon died last Sunday. Many people ask 'Who?'. Zevon is probably best remembered as the man who wrote 'Werewolf in London' But his sense of dark comedy was what was the true calling in his life was. A friend of David Letterman, Zevon once wrote an entire album focusing on the life of a Hockey goon who longed to be a scorer. He titled it 'Hit Somebody'. Well Warren, Johnny and John, you did, you hit me. 9/12/03 A Movie Review (Once Upon A Time In Mexico) Well, faithful readers, I have seen a great movie tonight. That movie is 'Once Upon A Time In Mexico'. If you liked Desperado and Johnny Depp, then this is the movie for you. Johnny Depp, right now, may be the best actor in America, or the one with the best line delivery. You can go to see the movie for the action, which is great, the way it is shot, which looks great with the new digital camera and a departure from film, or the sound, which is straight from Spaghetti Westerns. But really, go and see it for Johnny Depp. The man is funny, and he steals every scene he is in. While watching, you may sit back and take it in for most of it, but when Agent Sands (Depp) is on screen, you will sit up. Okay, well, I have said my piece, and oh yeah, Salma Hayek is damn hot. more to come... |
