Andrea L. Sitler, PhD
CONSULTANT

Howdy! My name is Andrea L. Sitler. I would like a few moments of your time to tell you about myself and my career.

BPAC Transportation was my first employer. This was 1981. I worked part time doing light deliveries and office fill in work. In short – I was their gopher! A year later, I began college and shortly after married my high school sweetheart. He was in the military and deployed oversees shortly after our nuptials. This is how I came to attend Berkshire University in London, England (UK).

By 1987 – we were divorced and BPAC Transportation offered me a position as manager. Returning to Baltimore; I accepted the position. Mr. and Mrs. Kishbaugh remained very active in the company. Over the next two years; I automated the office systems, redesigned the accounting and dispatch systems and greatly increased our customer base. BPAC was on the rise and I was leading the way.

The Kishbaugh's moved to a more investor position and I was promoted to Company President – he called it General Manager. What's in a name? The position and responsibilities were the same!

The next 10 years were a decade of wealth and prosperity for BPAC Transportation. We were steadily increasing in revenue and life was good. However in late 1999, Mr. Kishbaugh announced he was going to close the company. Mrs. Kishbaugh had fallen prey to Alzheimers. This was a sad day – BPAC was not just a job – we were a close knit team that had become an extended family. How could all that be ending?

I convinced him to leave the doors open for one more year. He handed out letters of recommendation and had me reduce the staff. We remained open but took on no new cliental. December 2000 marked the close of the doors on the office and warehouses of BPAC Transportation. But BPAC Transportation was not gone.

For the next 2 years; we honored the remains of our contracts. We had owner-operators on dedicated accounts. These accounts needed drivers to work out of their warehouses and so they did. We increased their percentage of the pay and everyone was happy. Once the contracts were fulfilled, many of the O/Os were able to independently acquire the contracts. The companies were happy because these were seasoned men and the rate did not have to be increased since they were now receiving 100% of the revenue – the O/O already received a raise – naturally. It was a win/win situation for all.

Unfortunately in Oct. 2003 both of the owners passed away within 12 days of each other. Mr. Kishbaugh always said, "I founded this company and I will close its doors. It is my reputation and only I can assure it." The company was built on superior customer service. We all offered the same primary service in the area – all we had to truly sell was Superior customer relations.

From here I moved back into consulting. Quantum Enterprises is the mother company of B.E.S.T. Consulting,Ramblin' Rose Enterprises, Kokopelli Komputer Services and Bedias Legal and Financial Services. RRE, now B.E.S.T. Consulting, offers general business consulting mainly to trucking companies through DOT, EPA, hazmat and driver training as well as company restructuring and delivery services. My paper entitled; Department of Transportation Hours of Service Laws Needs Adequate Revision has been cited by Transport Topics as a possible article to be published in an upcoming addition. KKS is an IT consulting firm offer computer services from A-Z including virus detection, protection and elimination. One tough case was the "I love you" virus fought at Northrop Grumman. BLFS, as the name implies, provides full service financial and accounting services as well as paralegal research and services.

Over the years – I have serviced many clients in various ways. Some of the top names have been Northrop Grumman, Verizon , Bryan Texas Utilities and Athena. My long term contracts were with smaller companies like White Dove Art and Jethro's Fancy Sticks. Services vary from accounting to P&L to IT services including database management, software training, whiteboard launches and manual , writings to computer/network setups and maintenance to anything imaginable large or small that would require the services of a consultant.

An excellent example of team work and going the extra mile would be the Wyle/Arrow merger of Thanksgiving 2000. Compucon was handling an extensive nationwide merger of these two companies. My consulting services were listed on Solig.com. I was contacted to see if I was interested in handling a weekend migration but the catch was I had to assemble a team to do the Columbia job.

I agreed and within 2 days I had assembled a team of MCSEs and CISCO engineers. Now I had to get them approved by Compucon. They were and we had the contract.

Upon arrival on Thursday evening; the job was to consist of disassembling the computer system, moving it to the new building, reassembly and synchronizing it with the computer system of the new company.

Sounds simple enough, right? Well if you think so – you have never been involved with this type of move. Synchronizing never works! This time was no different. Compucon's software experts swore all would go well. As the calls came in from across the nation – it was clear to see that ALL was going arye.

My team consisted of two excellent technicians – Tom and Laura. In a short time these to software genesises detected the problem and remedied 90% of it. The Compucon people were amazed! What remained to be done had to be completed by Compucon software engineers but my team showed them the way. I was so proud of us!

Even though I did not have the skills to do this myself, I had assembled the right team for the job. We came shining through! As expected Compucon took all the credit but that is normal. We know what we accomplished and ahead of schedule. We were scheduled to conclude by Sunday evening and with the set back were afraid it would run into Monday. This would be an issue. WE all had "real" jobs to get back to by then. My team wrapped it all up by Sunday noon. We got paid well and still had a little time to celebrate the holiday.

I offer to your company an experienced business manager. The transportation industry is my specialty. Being naturally logical and analytical; logistics management is a perfect fit. In addition – I offer a wealth of knowledge in finance, IT and business specifics such as DOT, EPA, OSHA and hazmat regulations. My CDL class A allows me to train and tutor drivers. It has offered me a first hand account of the industry. I have been there and seen exactly what occurs on a day to day basis from many perspectives.

An example - I have taken a run on a troubled account and entered the "lion's den" as a driver to see what the cause of issue has been. This allowed me to better solve and resolve many customer service / driver issues. First hand is always better than hearsay!

My legal studies background makes me well aware of the legal issues being faced in businesses of today. This keeps me informed and able to inform as well as train others on ways to avoid legal issues in the work place thereby reducing the chance for any legal actions against a company by disgruntled employees.

Volunteer work has added many skills to my portfolio. May years of service at the Baltimore American Indian Center have increased my people skills, allowed my family and I to participate in cultural activities providing me with the opportunity to give back to the community. Organizations like GreenPeace, Sierra Club, Save the Wolves and other environmental groups allowed me to see both sides of the coin while gaining valuable experience in EHS and environmental management while again providing a valuable community service. I am also active in political campaigns of various natures. This keeps me up to date on "what is going on" and allows me to make to valuable contacts at community as well as national levels. Currently I am a member of IATA and the Transportation Club of DFW.

BPAC Transportation offered me a wonderful opportunity for growth and knowledge. I soaked it up like a sponge and now how all this experience and more to offer to my company home.

I hope you enjoyed this information and found it to be useful. Thank you for your time and interest. _________________________________________________________________________

4/1981 - 12/2002 BPAC Transportation Baltimore, MD
General Manager
BPAC was an airfreight company in infancy when I came on board. My re-organization of the financial system and automation of the inner office systems greatly aided the success of the company. This new system allowed for better budget management, immediate rate quotes, driver tracking and communication as well as a more manageable collections and settlements department.

The new dispatch / logistics system allowed for better scheduling of shipping and receiving, smoother cargo transfers, complete airport sweeps, more accurate load scheduling, expansion to 125,000 sq. ft. warehouse and precise inventory control. This in turn; led to higher quality control in all aspects thereby allowing us to expand into other markets.

Successful contract negotiations with companies, shippers, brokers, larger carriers, owner-operators, lease drivers, casual workers and company drivers gave BPAC the ability to expand quickly. Excellent customer service and client relations allowed contract retention for repeat years. Even after the doors closed in 2000; BPAC honored contract completions for two more years until complete dissolution of the company. I remained for those two years on a part time basis.
