| Title: Using the library resources effectively. Subject Area(s) and level: Critical-reading skills and interpretation with library resources based on grade four and above. Brief Description of the Lesson: Students will read glossary of library resources. After reading the glossary students can answer short questions pertaining to the library resources and the web site. Students should focus on Information Literary Standards. Standards are accessable through a connecting web site or below with objectives listed. Why Do This? Critical reading skills at grade level is an expected skill for all students. The Information Literacy Standards are correlated with the English/Language Standards. Content: Critical reading skills include skimming, reading for information, using contexual-clues, vocabulary skills, comprehension skills, and research skills will be introduced and mastered. General Topic(s): * Library skills * Information Processing Skills Objectives: -Students will become proficient in the use of accessing information in the library. -Students will be able to identify and evaluate information critically and competently for varried topics. -Students will use the information accurately and creatively. -Students will search for informaiton with personal interests. -Students will appreciate literature and creative expressions of information. -Students will seek and be aware of the information generated. -Students will have an understanding of the importance of information in a democratic society. -Students will demonstrate ethical behavior with the regard to information and technology. -Students will share and collaborate with group work. Materails: * Availability to a Library Media Center. * Internet access. * Pen or Pencil. Evaluation of student performance: With the completion of this tutorial a student will have another reference web site to review. If the student doesn't understand the library resource information within this site then they are encouraged to ASK their librarian for further assistance. The library has a wealth of information that exsists.
