Melissa F. Diaz English 102 25 September 2002 Research Paper Requirements I. General Info A. The paper must be done. B. The paper must be between 1500 and 3000 words in length (approx. 5-7 pages). C. Various sources must be consulted and cited. 1. At least one source must be from a periodical (journal/scholarly article found in a book on the subject. 2. At least one source must be from the Internet 3. At least one source must be a book. A real, live book. * Encyclopedias and dictionaries will not count as sources. So, you cannot use them as sources!!!! D. You must photocopy all pages from which you paraphrase or directly quote. * Photocopied material MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED * (ie paraphrased --second paragraph, direct quote--fifth paragraph. E. You must follow MLA format for all aspects of your paper, but especially for documentation. F. The Research Paper will count as two grades. G. The due date for your 1st Draft is: on the day of your individual conference with me (Bldg 1, Rm 111W #9) H. The due date for your Final Draft is: Tuesday, November 23rd by 5:00pm II. Policies Students who fail to meet the deadlines for submitting the paper will loose ten points per day, for each day the paper is late. III. Things to do just before you turn in this masterpiece of literary gold, baby solid gold. A. Find a manila envelope or folder. You can use a pocket folder, if you wish. B. Place all of the following material inside in the following order: 1. rubric 2. final draft, including a final outline 3. first draft (including works cited) 4. previous rough drafts (and rough drafts of works cited) 5. original essay you chose to develop into a research paper 6. working sentence outline, including the revised thesis statement 7. copies of research materials You can email me your questions. |
