Diaz English 101 & 102 4 January 2005 Instructions to create a Word document in MLA format 1. click file, page setup 2. change the left and right margins from 1.25� to 1� (if you�re on your own computer, you may want to change the default to these settings.) 3. click okay 4. click on format, paragraph 5. change the line spacing from single to double 6. click on the drop-down arrow next to the font size and change it from 10 to 12 7. type in your name on the first line, then the instructor�s name, then the class title, then the date in MLA format (day month year). (see the heading on this page for an example.) * Don't use the header/footer option for this heading. 8. click on view, header and footer (a toolbar will appear, along with a dotted-line box) 9. type in your last name, then a space, then click on the # sign on the header and footer toolbar. (don't type in the # sign from the keyboard.) 10. highlight your name and the number, then click on the align right button at the top of the screen, then change the font from 10 to 12. 11. close the header and footer toolbar 12. type in and center your title on the line directly under the date, but do not set it off in quotation marks, nor should you underline, italicize, or bold it. Lastly, don�t make it a larger font size than the rest of the paper 13. begin your essay on the line directly under the title, but make sure that it (the body of your paper is not centered. It should be aligned left.) * make sure that your document is right aligned, not center aligned (check the toolbar at the top of the screen) |
