Geometry 1 Student Information
Goals:
- Learn the fundamentals of
plane geometry.
Expectations:
- Some of
the course material may be familiar. However, this class will be a much more
rigorous treatment of geometry than you have experienced before. Make sure
that you learn and understand all course vocabulary. A significant part of
geometry is the use of both inductive and deductive reasoning. Make sure that
you understand and practice the proofs that are part of your assignments.
- You
must have a geometry set with you for every class. If you do not, you will be
considered unprepared (1percent off your final grade each time)
- When
you are asked to draw or sketch a figure, you MUST use your geometry set.
Freehand is unacceptable.
- You must
show your work with your assignments. A list of answers (without showing work)
is unacceptable.
Grading:
- Homework
- about 15%
- Quizzes
- about 20%
- Tests -
about 40%
- Trimester
final - about 25%
Supplies:
- Notebook (spiral OK) for
class notes. This book should be used only for your geometry notes.
Quad-ruled is best because your notes will include diagrams and graphs.
- Geometry set: compass,
protractor, ruler
- Pencil, pen, paper.
