Aeronca Factory Blueprint: the 11 series Instrument Panel....
Aeronca Factory Blueprint: the 11 series Panel....
The Chief had one of the prettiest panels of any classic. A woodgrain finish, done with a ink-roller screen process was used. The process was from National Cash Register Co and until recently was used by the late Bernie Estes to make beautiful replications. We can only hope that the Chief screen does not disappear so future restorations can be made. As of March 1999 the Aeronca mail list had this lead for a new source, but we don't know if these are the original screens or not: Contact this gentleman.....it's worth a try and the first reports are good.

Other Aeronca blueprints are available from The Aeronca Aviators Club, 55 Oakey Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Indiana 47025 (812-537-9354)...we strongly encourage any Champ or Chief restorer to get in touch with them and join... the back issues of their publication will be very useful for you!

The Color photo on this page is my Aeronca's panel. I made a decision early in the restoration process to keep it original, even with the chips missing. So this is what the original panel looked like.... some 50 years later.
