The Soap Opera That Is My Life
Stuff that they talk about at the water cooler at work on their coffee breaks.
I decided to try something a bit different. Here's where I will tell about my life. It has becoming more and more like a soap opera, so I thought I should write down my thoughts here for you people to enjoy as well. Every so often I will post more of my life experiences as they unfurl.

April 30, 2002
I'll try to start at the beginning. It was a gorgeous Tuesday afternoon (or maybe not, I can't really remember).
I got to work and decided that this was going to be the day that I was going to ask someone out on a date. I felt that it was about time that I went out, since it had been awhile.
So I started thinking of potential candidates. Of course, my first thought was of Mike, the lifeguard at the beach, but I'm sure he was already taken. Who wouldn't want to date him? So I thought I'd make my standards just a little more acheivable.
So I thought about Jerry, who I met at the parade a few days before. He had given me his phone number, so I decided to call him. So I dialed the number, and let it ring once, and hung up the phone. Why? I don't know. I guess I was nervous.
So I called again, after I got some balls, and heard a voice on the other end. It was not as I had expected. It was a woman's voice. I didn't know what to say, so I stammered out (after a really long pause of utter stupidity), "uh...is...uh...Jerry there?"
"Who is this?" The woman asked. I wasn't sure if she was angry or if this was just her personality.
"Uh...this is Rita," I managed to squeak out. I am really nervous around people I don't know, if you hadn't guessed yet.
And with that, I heard a kind of huff and a click at the other end of the line. She hung up on me! That bitch! How did she know that I was going to ask Jerry out? Maybe I was his cousin, or his co-worker! I was so mad!
So I decided to take a walk to cool myself down. I walked down to the newspaper stand just down from work. I was looking at the paper, when a guy bumped into me from behind. I nearly fell down. Guess I shouldn't have worn those really high heeled shoes.
So the guy who knocked me over turned around, having the most gorgeous blue eyes I've ever seen. He appologized, and asked me if he could make it up to me by buying me a coffee. I immediately said yes, I mean, I'm not stupid!
So, it turns out that his name is Chris, and he works at the bar downtown that I once went to. It's called "The Panther". It was really fun, and I was planning on going back someday (seriously! Not just because of Chris!).
So he told me that I should go that night, because he was working. So I told him that I would, thanked him for the coffee, and left, because I had to get back to work.
I got back to work, and noticed that there was a message on my machine. So, I pressed play, and I hear Jerry's voice.
"Uh, hi Rita. I think you just called here, but were rudely hung up on. That was my sister, she likes to pretend that I have a jealous girlfriend." I could hear her laughing in the background. "So, if you want to give me a call back, maybe we can catch a movie or go out for dinner tonight or something. Sorry about that. Bye."
I felt really bad. I really liked Jerry. Now I had to choose between Jerry and Chris! What was I going to do?
