The Saga Continues...
The Soap Opera That Is My Life Part 2:
May 3, 2002
I was torn between the two. I really liked Jerry, on the other hand, I really felt a connection between Chris and I. I wasn't sure what to do. So, as anyone would do, I called my best friend Sara.
"What should I do? I'm confused!" I asked her. She said something about the fact that if this was the only thing that was worrying me at them moment I had it pretty good.
Anyways, we weighed out the options, seeing the good side of both, and we ended up deciding that I would go out with one tonight, and the other another night. Since I had already agreed to see Chris tonight, I decided to see Jerry another night. So I nervously picked up the phone and dialed his number, preparing myself for his sister to answer and do a repeat of last time.
"Hello?" The familiar voice of Jerry, thank God.
"Hi, It's me, Rita," I said. I hoped he didn't hear the shaking in my voice, but I'm sure he did.
"Rita! I'm so glad you called! I was worried that you got scared off by my sister! She can be such a bitch sometimes, but she means well. So what are you up to?" He sounded really excited to hear from me.
"Well, not much, just wondering if you wanted to go out some time this week. When are you free?"
"What about tonight? I think it's the only night off I have this week..." Yeah, of course it is.
I wasn't sure what I should say. "What about next week? I'm kinda busy tonight."
"Oh, I would love to, but I'm going to my parent's house in Utah for the week. And after that week my dick of a boss has me scheduled to work overtime, or else I wasn't able to get next week off. So I'm booked solid for the next three weeks. But if you don't want to go out with me, I'll understand. We can always get together some other time."
Man, did I feel like an idiot. "No, no! I really want to see you! I guess I could change my plans for tonight, it's not that big of deal."
So we made plans, and he was going to take me out somewhere fun, but it was a surprise. It was our first date, so I wasn't sure where it was going to be. But I was also worried about how I was going to get out of going out with Chris tonight. I decided that I would just call him and tell him I wasn't feeling well. I hate lying like that, but it was better than telling him that I was going out with another guy.
So I called him, and he was cool with that, saying that we'd go out when I was feeling better. I felt like a tool.
So I got dressed, and Jerry picked me up at around 9:30. He put a blindfold on me when we got into his car.
Oh, this is great, I thought. I hope it isn't anywhere too fancy I'm not dressed properly.
We drove for about ten minutes, but I had no idea where we were going. When I asked him what was with the blindfold, he just said that he'd never done that to a girl before, and he thought it would be funny. Lovely.
The car came to a stop and he opened my door for me and let me out. He took off the blindfold, and I looked up. The sign said...you guessed it..."The Panther". Oh great, here we go.
"Uh, I don't mean to sound whiney, but could we please go somewhere else?" I asked as nicely as possible.
"Really? I haven't been here and I really wanted to see what it was like." He sounded like he was really disappointed.
I remembered that Chris told me that he wasn't working until 11:00.
"Well, we could stay a little while, and go somewhere else after, is that okay?" I was desparate, but I like a little adventure now and then.
"Alright! That sounds good," he said. And we went inside.
We weren't even there for five minutes when someone came up behind me.
"I see you're feeling better."
I spun around. Chris. This was not good...
