| Chapter Ten: The Path to Digi-Destiny |
| �Is that him?� Andrea asked Salamon, clinging onto Abdulmon. �Yeah, that�s Davimon.� Salamon replied. �Like Centarumon said, this guy is pure evil.� �You think we can fight him?� Kerri queried. �I shall try my best.� Abdulmon informed. �We all will.� Wumon concurred. The group were all gathered behind a pillar just outside Davimon�s hideout. They were looking at the dark Digimon as he sat on a throne; a patient yet infuriated expression on his face. �Let�s go.� Tim said, and the group all emerged and approached Davimon. Upon standing in front of him, he opened his eyes. �Digidestined!� Davimon spoke. �This is� Craig Dav�� �We know who you are!� Khalid interrupted. �You�re going down, Davimon!� Tim shouted, jumping off of Novadramon with Shocamon in his arms. �I don�t think so, Digi Brats!� Davimon called, standing. He reached behind his chair and pulled something out. �Watch out, he�s got something!� Darren spoke. �Power up!� Adrian called, looking down at Onomon. �Onomon Digivolve to� Katonomon!� Adrian�s Digimon announced, growing bigger. �Salamon, remember when I told you to save your energy?� Andrea reminded. �Yeah?� �Well, it�s time to use it!� �Got it!� Salamon shouted, glowing white. �Salamon Digivolve to�Gatomon!� Khalid looked down at Slipmon. �Slipmon, get ready! Digivolve!� Khalid ordered. �Slipmon Digivolve to�Hereticmon!� All Digimon and humans watched as Davimon pulled out a jar full of black dust. He continued to pour this dust over himself. The group watched as the evil Digimon grew slightly bigger and glowed with a black light. �Bo� Selecta!� Davimon called. �I�m ready!� �That dust�� Sam began. �Is it the same dust DemiDevidramon used to possess Digimon?� Khalid asked. �Looks like it.� Adrian offered. �He�s gotten stronger!� Audrey spoke. �Enough of this! Antler Shot!� Wumon declared, bending over and firing his antlers at Davimon. Davimon held up his hands and the antlers turned around and flew towards Wumon. The elk jumped out of the way as his antlers exploded where he once stood. The humans, as well as Shocamon, took this opportunity to run and hide behind a nearby rock, from where they could watch the action. �Darkness Grenades!� Hereticmon shouted, throwing several balls of dark energy at Davimon. Davimon folded his arms in front of his face and the dark balls bounced off of an invisible shield, flying in all directions. Novadramon charged at Davimon, and the two locked hands. �Don�t waste your time!� Davimon screamed, throwing Novadramon back into his throne. �Let�s all attack at once!� Serpemon offered. �I�ll lead! Antler Shot!� Wumon declared, firing his antlers. �Snake Pulse!� Serpemon launched a shockwave of energy from her body at Davimon. �Mega Wing!� Abdulmon shouted, creating a ball of energy and firing it at the foe. �Money Shot!� Katonomon declared, firing a salvo of white balls of energy from his legs. �Darkness Grenades!� Hereticmon threw another volley of dark energy at Davimon. Davimon picked up his throne in one hand and Novadramon in the other. He turned and held up both the throne and Novadramon to shield himself from the attack. The throne split into atoms as Wumon�s antlers, Hereticmon�s dark energy salvo and Katonomon�s white energy hit it, and Abdulmon�s red ball as well as Serpemon�s pulse hit Novadramon. The tall Digimon screamed and shrunk back to his Tridemon form. Davimon smiled and threw Tridemon towards the humans. �No! Tridemon!� Sam screamed, as his Digimon partner landed nearby. Sam ran over to his trident-wielding friend and picked him up, before taking him to the rest of the group. �Bo�! One down, six to go!� Davimon declared. Gatomon watched Davimon�s belt closely; she thought she could see something, but wasn�t quite sure what it was. Wumon head butted Davimon from behind, pushing him into a pillar. The pillar collapsed, creating a cloud of dust. Wumon looked on, ready to attack again when Davimon got up. However, he wasn�t expecting half of the fallen pillar to come swinging out of the dust. The pillar hit Wumon, and Wumon flew backwards, impacting with Abdulmon, and the two Digimon were sent reeling back into a wall. Both glowed white and returned to their Moosemon and Eaglemon forms, respectively. �Moosemon!� Darren called. �Eaglemon, no!� Kerri shouted, her voice quivering. �Shit, he�s strong!� Adrian commented. �There�s only four of them left now!� Tim affirmed. Davimon stood as the dust around him dissipated and held the pillar he had hit Wumon with high above his head. �Snake Pulse!� Serpemon shouted again, launching a pulse of energy from her body towards Davimon. Davimon threw the pillar at the pulse and the attack hit it in the middle, splitting it in two. The first half flew straight towards Hereticmon, who grabbed it with all four hands and stopped its movement, skidding along the ground. The other half flew straight towards Katonomon, who hit it with his tail to defend himself, causing it to spin out of control. It span straight into Serpemon, who De-Digivolved into Slythamon. �Slythamon!� Katonomon shouted. �Shit, I�m sorry!� Katonomon looked surprised as Davimon�s fist struck his face. Davimon then grabbed Katonomon�s tail, swung him around in circles, and threw him towards the Digidestined. He flew into the wall with a thud and reverted to his Onomon form. �Onomon!� Adrian called. �You alright?� �I�m�fine, Adrian�� Onomon confirmed, slowly. While this was going on, Gatomon had caught a glimpse of the object clipped onto Davimon�s belt. There could no longer be any doubt. But how could she get it from him? Hereticmon, meanwhile, had lifted up the pillar piece and threw it back to Davimon. Davimon punched the pillar just as it was about to hit him, splitting it in half. He then locked hands with Hereticmon, and the two Digimon wrestled, but Davimon was stronger and he succeeded in bending Hereticmon�s fingers back, causing the Digimon to kneel down in pain. Hereticmon turned to Gatomon. �Hey, Gatomon, a little help here?� Hereticmon asked. �Stay, cat!� Davimon ordered. Gatomon stood still and watched, but not because of Davimon�s order. Davimon kicked Hereticmon in the chest, causing the Digimon more pain, before picking him up over his head and throwing him into the wall. Hereticmon glowed white and shrunk to his Slipmon form. �Slipmon!� Khalid exclaimed, approaching his companion. �Shit!� �We haven�t got a chance!� Audrey said. �There�s only Gatomon left now!� Davimon approached Gatomon and stood directly in front of her, smiling cockily, as if the battle had already been won. Gatomon had a determined look on her face and returned Davimon�s gaze. �I�ll tell you what, Gatomon.� Davimon spoke. �I�ll let you have the first attack!� A smile crept up on Gatomon�s face. That was exactly the attitude she�d hoped he�d have. �Lightning Claw!� Gatomon declared, flying at Davimon�s left flank and cutting with her claws. Davimon didn�t feel a thing, and turned to her. �You missed.� He said, his cocky smile still present. �Did I?� Gatomon asked, returning the cocky smile and holding a Digivice out for Davimon to see. Davimon�s smile faded very, very quickly, replaced with an expression that was a blend of fear, anger and shock. �Give that back now, cat!� Davimon shouted, running towards Gatomon, but the cat Digimon turned and threw the Digivice to Tim. �Tim, catch!� She shouted, and Tim knelt forwards, ready to catch the Digivice. In a last ditch attempt to grab the device, Davimon dived forwards. Time seemed to stop as the Digivice fell between Tim�s hand and Davimon�s hand. But Davimon grabbed nothing but air as Tim snapped up the Digivice. �No!� Davimon shouted. �No!� Shocamon immediately glowed white. �Shocamon Digivolve to�� He announced, growing in size. The light eventually faded, leaving a large lizard-like Digimon in its place. ��Fusemon!� This Digimon was white with black stripes, wearing a black helmet with two horns atop it. Instead of hands at the end of his arms, this Digimon had hefty cannons. Davimon stood and faced this new challenge. �Lightning Claw!� Gatomon dived at Davimon�s head, digging her claws into his flesh. �Get off, cat!� Davimon screamed. �Now, Fusemon!� Gatomon suggested. �Shockcannon!� Fusemon declared, charging up his hand cannons with electricity. Eventually, he fired the cannons, unleashing two balls of high voltage energy into Davimon�s stomach. The evil Digimon screamed in pain, stunned by the electric shock. Gatomon, her job done, jumped off of Davimon. Fusemon ran towards Davimon and tore through his stomach with his hard helmet, before skidding around to watch. �Bo� Selecta!� With this last scream, Davimon split into his separate atoms. Gatomon and Fusemon both glowed white before shrinking to their previous forms. The Digidestined all approached the pair. Shocamon ran towards Tim and leapt into his arms. �I did it, Tim!� Shocamon said. �I Digivolved!� �Well done.� Tim congratulated. The young man then realised that he was so engrossed in the battle; he was still holding his Digivice! He clipped it onto his belt. The other Digidestined all went and picked up their injured Digimon partners. |
| �What are we supposed to do now?� Khalid asked, holding Slipmon in his arms. �I dunno.� Adrian commented. �Congratulations, Digidestined!� A voice called from behind them. The group turned and saw an old man dressed in blue standing in the gate leading to the path that lead to the foot of the mountain. �I must say you impressed me with the way you fought Davimon. But the true battle has only just begun.� �Who are you?� Andrea asked. �My name is Gennai.� The old man informed, approaching the group. �I was the one that was appointed by the eight great Digimon gods to bring you here, and to prepare your Digimon, Digivices and crests.� �Crests?� Darren repeated. �Allow me to explain.� Gennai spoke. �Right now your Digimon are at, what we call, the rookie phase of their Digivolution. Digimon such as Fusemon, Hereticmon and Serpemon are the champion level. Digimon below the rookie level are known as the In-training level. There is also a Fresh level below that.� �Yeah, so what?� Khalid challenged. �Please, allow me to continue.� Gennai spoke. �There is a level above that of champion, called the ultimate level, and your Digimon could reach that level.� �Really?� Kerri spoke, excited. �Yes, but your Digivices are not strong enough to enable your Digimon to reach this level on their own. You need the crests.� Gennai explained. �They are small rectangular charms. I spread them out throughout the Digiworld to prevent them from being found by�unsavoury characters.� With these words, Gennai pulled out a set of tags from his pocket. �These are your tags.� Gennai enlightened. �The crests are to be kept in these tags. There is a slot for them to be inserted into.� He handed the tags out to the Digidestined, being careful to give the right tags to the right people. As soon as Adrian took his tag, however, it began to glow! Gennai looked surprised. �That�s incredible!� Gennai said. �What does this mean?� Adrian asked him. �When your tag glows like that, it means your crest is nearby.� Gennai informed. �The crest should be glowing, too.� Khalid looked down as he saw some light emanate from his pocket. The rest of the group, including Gennai, had also seen this. �Is this it?� Khalid asked, taking a small purple charm from his pocket and handing it to Adrian. Adrian inserted the charm into the slot and the tag ceased to glow. �That�s it!� Gennai said. �That�s Adrian�s. His is the Crest of Knowledge.� �You stole my crest!� Adrian shouted, pushing Khalid. �You Pikey!� Adrian examined the crest. It displayed two circles, one larger than the other, which were linked in the middle. The circle on the left, the larger one, had a dot in its centre. �What�s my crest?� Kerri asked. �Yeah, what�s mine?� Khalid quizzed. �One at a time, please!� Gennai interrupted. �Kerri, yours is the Crest of Friendship. Khalid, yours is the Crest of Loyalty. Darren, you have the Crest of Ambition. Tim, yours is the Crest of Determination, and Sam�s is the Crest of Selflessness. Audrey, you have the Crest of Modesty.� �You left out me�� Andrea spoke up. �Andrea, I left you until last because your crest is special. Yours is the Crest of Emotion.� �Why is mine special?� Andrea asked. �You�ll find out eventually.� Gennai assured her. �In any case, your crests represent your best qualities. When you display that quality, you crest will glow. If it glows brightly enough, your champion level Digimon will Digivolve to the ultimate level. Just keep in mind that you must display those qualities. The crest could have the opposite effect if you display the opposite of that quality.� �What do you mean, opposite effect?� Sam asked. �They could prevent your Digimon from Digivolving past champion or, worse still, cause them to De-Digivolve to their rookie forms.� Gennai explained. �I see�� Sam trailed. �But you must be vigilant in finding the crests, Digidestined!� Gennai warned. �I have learned of an evil Digimon named Dracomon. He knows of your crests and is currently trying to find them, to prevent your Digimon from reaching the ultimate level.� �What should we do?� Khalid asked. �Find the crests before Dracomon does, then Digivolve to ultimate and defeat him!� Gennai suggested. �Okay!� Kerri shouted. �You all should leave now.� Gennai said. �I shall remain here, where I can watch you.� �Okay Gennai.� Audrey said. �Bye Gennai!� Sam called back, as the group walked down the trail to the foot of the mountain. |

| The sun was setting as the Digidestined reached the foot of the mountain. Once there, they looked around. �Where should we start looking for the crests?� Darren asked. �Can we think about that tomorrow, guys?� Khalid asked. �I�m tired.� �Yeah, our Digimon could use a rest after that tough battle.� Tim noted. �We should find a place to stay the night.� Adrian suggested. �Here will do.� Tim said, leaning against a nearby tree. �We�ll keep guard.� Andrea volunteered. �Right Salamon?� �We will?� Salamon replied. �Yeah, we will.� Andrea spoke. �Alright then.� Audrey said, leaning against the tree. Eventually, all of the Digidestined and their Digimon friends fell asleep, except for Andrea and Salamon. Andrea approached Kerri�s sleeping form and kissed her forehead. �What are you doing, Andrea?� Salamon asked. Andrea did not reply. Instead, she stood, turned, and walked off into the distance. �Andrea?� Salamon called, bounding after her partner. Salamon wondered where the two of them were heading but did not argue as they wondered further and further away from the rest of the group. |
