Extraordinary, Chapter 1
Kanai tried to be happy as she walked down an empty street towards her lonely apartment. It was a cold and cloudy day. The winds of the coming storm were already picking up blowing her long blonde hair over her face covering her emerald green eyes. Annoyed with it, she immediately took a rubber band from her school bag and secured it into a ponytail. Her annoyance added to her already boiling blood. As hard as she tried, she could not stay content for just one moment. I was one of those days that reminded her just how mediocre she and her life really were. She let out a deep sigh, knowing that there was nothing that could be done about it, and hastened her pace to avoid the upcoming rain. To her disappointment the pouring rain seemed to follow her. Each droplet robbed her of each precious minute of her empty-filled Friday and seemed to weigh down on her like lead. As if an epiphany occurred, she grunted and slowed her pace knowing, again, that she could do nothing about it. She walked with more calm in her step, perfectly vindicated, it wasnt as if she were expecting company or heading anywhere besides the couch. She tried to be optimistic of the situation and figured that this would give her an opportunity to take a long warm bath, to wash all her troubles away. Kanai finally gave a sigh of satisfaction; this new revelation filled her with much anticipation.
It seemed like hours had passed before she arrived home. Immediately she headed for the bath to take off her heavy jean jacket and pants that with the absorbed rain seemed to have gained a ton. As she took off her school bag, her mood did a complete 360 . Once again the anger that she had felt earlier came pouring back in a rush of absolute disappointment. The rain had soaked right through her bag ruining the few, and already ragged, books she owned. Kanai, absolutely peeved, walked towards the kitchen table and arranged the books and papers out under the light so that they may dry. A bit relaxed now, she headed back to the bathroom to turn on the water faucet. She waited for the perfect warm water then proceeded to finish discarding the rest of her wet garments. Kanai waited for the bathtub to fill before submerging herself in the wonderfully warm water. The warmth filled her right to the core and melted each little disappointment into its abyss. After a long while she found herself almost drifting to sleep, and with a smile on her face she decided it was time to hop out of the tub. She grabbed the nearest towel and dried her hair and body before wrapping the towel around herself. Kanai proceeded to her bedroom to put on her pajamas for the night. No sooner did she finish when a sudden knock was heard at the door. Kanai was puzzled, she wasnt expecting anyone at this time, especially since her entire family was on vacation and her friend had gone out of town to an art exhibition. Her trailing thoughts were answered by a mans worried voice saying We have a package for the owner of this apartment, Kazetsubaki Kanai.
Oh, yay, A package!! She thought. Finally something exciting. She processed that for a second and concluded, Hmmmm, I cant believe I think a package is exciting... I need a life.
With a look of disbelief, in herself, she continued towards the door and the closer she walked she found herself hearing muffled voices in the background. Kanais expression changed to that of suspicion and curiosity. With more care in her steps, she proceeded to open the door. As she swung the door open she could see through the first widening crack that it had become completely dark outside and the pouring rain had become much harsher. What she didnt see was the muscular hand that had crept up her face to drown her much anticipated screams.
