KILLED AT JOLIET.
William Nottman, Son of the Alderman, a Railroad Victim.
William Notman, son of Alderman John Notman,
807 Cable street was instantly killed by a train at Joliet yesterday.
The
body was brought here this morning for burial.

Pride of the
Woods Foresters of America, of which the deceased was
a member, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock; services at the

Mr. Notman had been employed in the steel
mills at Joliet for several years. Yesterday while riding on an excursion
train which had come from Aurora and was pulling through the Alton
yards in the Stone City, he either slipped off or jumped
and landed directly in front of a switch engine which was working on an
adjoining track. The locomotive struck him and threw him under the
wheels of the train upon which he had been riding a moment before.
He was instantly killed, the body being badly mutilated
George Hunter, a representative of Court Pride
of the Woods, went to Joliet last night and returned to Streator with the
remains at 11 o'clock today.
The deceased was 25 years of age and his death
is a severe blow to his parents and friends. The young man took out
$1,000 insurance on his life only last week. As he was unmarried
that amount will be paid to the bereaved parents. The deceased, who
was at one time a Free Press carrier, is a brother of Robert Notman, formerly
a member of the salaried fire department. |
