| A very unique and unusual tombstone-- It's made
of glazed terracotta and styled to resemble a tree trunk. The upright
branches are open at the top, possibly to hold potted plants. While
most of the stones in the cemetery are oriented E-W, this one is oriented
N-S (the view above is taken looking south). My thanks to Pat S.
for the following information:
Violette married William H. Milligan, Dec. 29, 1864, Livingston County Il. William Mulligan, carpenter, was born in Ohio in 1826. The 20 year age difference along with the ages of the children listed in their household in the 1870 census of Livingston County indicate that this was probably Mr. Milligan's second marriage. The census lists 5 children in the household-- Anna (age 10), Jasper (age 9), Frank (age 4), Emma (age 3), and Maud (3 months). Anna and Frank are probably from Mr. Milligan's first marriage the others are probably Violette's. All the children were born in Illinois. There are some other McDowells buried in Moon Point but they're in a different part of the cemetery and I have no idea if they're related. To my knowledge there are no other Milligans buried in Moon Point. |
