SUCCUMBS AFTER FUTILE STRUGGLE
Edward Hopwood Is Victim Of Tuberculosis--Died At Parent's Home.

   After a year's futile fight with consumption Edward Hopwood of Gridley died yesterday afternoon at the home of his parents at Flanagan.  Mr. Hopwood was twenty-eight years old this month. He had lived in this locality for a few years and had a number of acquaintances in the vicinity. 
   Eight years ago he married Miss Susan Burton, who survives him, but no children were born. 
   Contracting tuberculosis about one year ago he went to Texas but the change of climate did little good. He returned to Illinois some time ago and entered a sanitarium at El Paso where he remained until a few days ago, when hopeless of life, he was brought to the home of his parents where he died.
   Relatives of Deceased.
   Besides his wife, he leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hopwood, and a grandmother, now ninety years old.  Charles, residing in Chicago, Ben and James, living near Cornell, are brothers, and Mrs. Sarah Kiser of South Dakota and May Hopwood, living at the Flanagan home, are sisters.
  The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of the wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Burton, near Coalville, and interment will be made in Moon cemetery.

S. DEFENBAUGH PASSES AWAY

   Mrs. Susan Esther Defenbaugh, R.2, Streator, died early this morning in St. Mary's Hospital where she had been a patient since December.
   Services will be at 1p.m. Monday from the Winterrowd funeral home with burial in Moon cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5  and 7-9 p.m..
   Mrs. Defenbaugh was born June 6, 1882 in Streator, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Moore) Burton  She first married John Hopwood, who died in 1908.  She married Ross Defenbaugh in Streator March 6, 1912.  She had resided in Streator all her life and was affiliated with the First Baptist church.
   Survivors include: her husband, one sister, Mrs. Mary Porter Pope, Streator, several nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters.

DEATH TAKES LOCAL MAN

   Ross Defenbaugh, RFD 2, Streator, died at 7:15 a.m. today in St. Mary's hospital, where he had been a patient the past three months.  He had been ill about a year.
   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Winterrowd funeral home with burial in Moon cemetery
   Visitation will be held Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
  Mr. Defenbaugh was born at Coalville April 27, 1882, He was the son of Joseph and Josephine (Bell) Defenbaugh.
  He was married to Susan Burton, March 6, 1912, in Streator.  She died in January.
     Survivors include two brothers, Bert of Milwaukee, Wis., and Noah of Ancona; and two sisters, Mrs. Walter (Ruth) Gregory of  Rockford  and Mrs. Lucy Haley of Streator.  Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, a brother and a sister.
   Mr. Defenbaugh was a member of the First Baptist Church.  He was a retired drayman.
