JOSEPH CARR, FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT, DIES
Prominent Wood Engraver Is Claimed At Home of His
Daughter In Kinsman.
Joseph Carr, aged 88, former well known Streatorite,
died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Timm
of Kinsman, with whom he had resided for some time. Complications,
coupled with infirmities of old age, were ascribed as the cause of
his demise.
Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock
Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Timm, with burial in Moon cemetery.
The son of Joseph and Ellen Brown Carr, he was
born in England in the year 1852, spending his early life there, and claiming
in marriage on June 17, 1873, at West Comfort, Eng., Miss Margaret Brown,
with whom he came to America in 1884.
Six children blessed the union, the following
of whom are left to mourn his passing: Mrs. George Conner, Ottawa;
Mrs. Joseph Cline, Virden, Ill.; Mrs Fred Carrington, Denver, Colo., and
Mrs. Timm of Kinsman His wife preceded him in death in this city
in 1895. A son and a daughter, and one brother Robert Carr, a minister,
at Terre Haute, Ind., also preceded him in death. Another brother
in England, together with 12 grandchildren,
survive.
Mr. Carr was well known in Streator and
vicinity where he spent many years of his life, and displayed rare artistry
as a mechanic and wood engraver. Many of his works won favor in the
community and were admired by thousands who were privileged to see them.
His friends were legion, and there are scores in the community who will
share the sorrow which had come to the immediate family. |
