| From Streator Times-Press,
Mar. 15, 1946:
CHILD DIES OF STRANGULATION
The child was rushed to St. Mary hospital where everything known to medical science was employed in a desparate battle to recapture a spark of life. Attending physicians said that the child was apparently dead on arrival at the hospital. The tragedy occurred about 10:15 a.m. in the Armstrong home where the child was being cared for while the parents, both school teachers, were at their respective schools. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong, both of whom were nearly prostrate with grief, said the fatal mishap occurred at a time when the grandmother's attention was momentarily distracted. The child had been playing with the blind, and from all indications had lost her balance, resulting in her head becoming caught in the loop of the draw-cord. She was unconscious when her grandmother reached her side. Within a short while, the victim was in the emergency room of St. Mary hospital, where artificial respiration, oxygen, and adrenalin were employed in the unsuccessful attempt to restore life. The father only recently was discharged from the armed forces after serving with the navy. The mother is the former Margaret Armstrong. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Elias funeral home, with burial in Moon Cemetery. Barbara Lynn was born Nov. 28, 1944, in this city, and was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Covill. [1] [1] This is incorrect, at the time
of her death Barbara had a 4 year old sister.
