(Burial markers for Jacob and Mary Bussard) |
| From the Streator Free Press
Weekly, Sept. 7, 1888:
"Mrs. Buzzard (sic) an old resident of Reading died quite suddenly yesterday forenoon and as she was quite old it is thought that she died of old age. She was one of the oldest residents of Reading, coming there some 20 years ago and has been a resident of Reading ever since. She had been a widow for several years and leaves several children all grown to manhood and womanhood. She was a sister- in-law to Mr. Isaac Buzzard who also lives near Reading. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock and the remains will be laid to rest in the Moon Cemetery." |
| The
massive granite Jacob and Mary Bussard stone is the largest marker in Moon
Point. The Bussard stone and the similarly styled but slightly smaller
George and Roseanne Armstrong stone adjacent to it dominate the Eastern
side of the cemetery (view).
George Armstrong and Mary Armstrong Bussard were siblings. Unlike
the similarly styled Geo. Armstrong stone, however, the Bussard tombstone
is engraved on all four sides:
