ALLEN RITES WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY ---- Pioneer of Reading Township Answers Summons- Highly Respected Woman ---- Mrs. Allen had been ill of complications for the past seven weeks and news of her passing was received with deep regret by her friends in the community, where she was so well known and highly respected. Maria Redfern, daughter of John and Margaret Redfern, was born July 8, 1855, in Greene County, Pa. She came to this city with her parents when six years of age, and has since lived in or near Coalville. She was united in marriage with Delos Allen on December 25, 1875, at Pontiac, Ill., and to this union, three children were born, one of whom, Ellsworth, with the aged husband, remains. Two grandchildren and one brother, John Redfern of Ancona, are also left. A son Arthur and a daughter Lillie Lea, one brother, Thomas Redfern and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Evans, Mrs. Ellen Allen, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson and Mrs. Annie Clark preceded her in death. The couple had the great pleasure on December 25, 1925, of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The deceased was a woman of sterling character, greatly devoted to her family and home. Her long residence in that particular locality gained a peculiar position for her, and many were the tales of early hardship she could tell her children and acquantences. She was truly one of the early pioneers. Her son, Ellsworth, resides in Reading Township. |
