News
Welcome to our news section, we have all of the news you might of missed in the past few weeks/months. Enjoy.
TLC- April 29, 2002
According to the newspaper The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, nearly three weeks before singer Lisa Left Eye Lopes died in a car crash in Honduras, she was involved in another accident in the country. A public affairs officer for the U.S. embassy has said that the singer was in a van driven by her personal assistant, Stephanie Patterson, and that the van struck and killed a ten-year-old boy. Apparently the boy stepped out into oncoming traffic, the accident was never reported to legal authorities. A publicist for Lopes' group, TLC, said he was aware of reports about the April 6 accident. "But the reality is, no one I'm dealing with wants to comment at this time." Lopes lawyer in Honduras did confirm some of the details of the accident and has said that Lopes paid $3,700 for medical costs and for the funeral, she also gave the family $925. A private wake for Lisa Lopes is set for Wednesday evening, and the funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Rob Zombie- April 29, 2002
Its taken two years but justice is near. Rob Zombie learned Mazda was using his music to sell trucks two years ago and became furious. After years of preliminary court proceedings, the resulting lawsuit against Mazda and The Doner ad Agency is now just beginning, in July. According to undercover.com, Zombie said Mazda is not taking the use of the Hellbilly Deluxe music seriously. Mazda takes it so lightly like, Oh, whatever. The focus of the trial will basically be whether the music was stolen intentionally or by accident, by Mazda or the ad agency. Zombies motivation for the trial is based on reputation. Someone like Britney Spears doesnt have any integrity to maintain so it doesnt matter shes a corporate puppet from the get-go. But for people who arent, its different, said Zombie.
TLC - April 26, 2002
Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes from TLC has died in a car crash while on a visit to a Honduras centre for herbal healing therapy. She was 30 years old. According to cnn.com, the singer was involved in a head-on collision on a country road just after 6 PM on Thursday. A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy has said that Lopes, who was driving the car died instantly. There were seven other people in the vehicle who escaped serious injury. Lisa was born in Philadelphia and later moved to Atlanta where she, Chilli and T-Boz formed TLC. Their debut album "Ooooooohhh... On The TLC Tip, had three top ten hits (Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg, Baby-Baby-Baby, What About Your Friends) and introduced the world to these flamboyant, outrageous girls. Lisa was the most outspoken /volatile member of the trio whose actions included burning down the house of her then boyfriend NFL star Andre Rison. She recently surprised everybody by signing with Suge Knight's Tha Row record label under the moniker N.I.N.A. which is a slang term for a 9mm. handgun. TLC were said to be a few months into working on their fourth album. In a statement issued to CNN, T-Boz and Chilli said..." "We had all grown up together and were as close as a family. Today we have truly lost our sister."

Jay-Z, Nelly and DMX - April 25, 2002
Sure, everyone likes a little Jay-Z, Nelly and DMX party music now and then, but sometimes you just want a bit more to chew on, and for a lot of people that means turning to the world of underground rap. The Difference, a compilation of 12 new songs due in June on the Official Jointz label, is already catching a buzz thanks to "Clear 'Em Out," an alleged Nelly dis track by KRS-One featuring Tonedeff. According to the album's producer, Domingo (Fat Joe, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony), when he asked KRS-One if the track was a direct attack on the St. Louis rapper, KRS denied it. But the streets not to mention the album's press release say otherwise. Lyrics like "You tired of me saying what's real hip-hop/ Well I'm tired of you biting my sh-- to go pop" and "Sales don't make you the authority/ It only means you sold out to the white majority" leave little doubt that, directed at Nelly or anyone else, KRS is not a fan of mainstream hip-hop. Kool G Rap, while also featured on the album, isn't as aggressive about commercial music as KRS is. "I'm not concerned with what anyone else is doing," he said. "I'm just concerned about what I'm doing." The Difference is populated by such other underground heroes as Dilated Peoples, Punch & Words, the Cocoa Brovaz, Big L, Royal Flush and Craig Mack. The acts were enlisted, according to Domingo, to make a difference in hip-hop music, hence the title of the album. "Hip-hop is so fabricated right now," Domingo said. "We're trying to bring it down to where it really came from: the underground, the streets. A lot of these cats got mainstream songs, but the whole point of the album was not to do so-called commercial music. We thought, let's put out an album that may not satisfy mainstream ears but the ears of people that want to listen to hip-hop how it was." The typical underground aesthetic of gritty beats and rhymes abounds on The Difference, heard most clearly in the brief appearance by Tonedeff, whose voice and flow bear a striking resemblance to Eminem's. Domingo, who was discovered by Marley Marl but said he owes his success to Fat Joe, has personal relationships with all of the acts on the album, making it a labor of love for all involved. But it wasn't just an opportunity to get together and have a good time, he said. This album means something to the artists involved. "Domingo is not just a producer," Kool G Rap said. "He's a real hip-hop culture-oriented person. He didn't just do this for a couple of dollars like a lot of people just jumping into the game now. He loves it."

Michael Jackson - April 25, 2002
Pop star Michael Jackson has given a rare performance to launch a campaign aimed at persuading United States citizens to register to vote. The pop superstar shared the stage with former president Bill Clinton and singers Tony Bennett and kd lang at a concert that raised almost $3m (2m) for the Democratic National Committee. The money would be used for the new Every Vote Counts campaign, the committee said. Jackson was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. The iconic venue saw Jackson perform there in his youth, as well as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Stevie Wonder. The 1,400 audience members paid up to $5,000 (3,400) each to see the array of stars, which also included comedian Chris Tucker and actress Cicely Tyson. Mr Clinton said voting was important, adding that with "conflicts all over the world" they were "trying to build a community in which everybody can respect his or her own race or religion and still be a part of a larger community". Mr Clinton introduced Jackson as "one of the most remarkable performers in American history" - but he did not accompany him on the saxophone, as some had hoped. The concert was one of 30 events that launched the Every Vote Counts campaign six months before elections in November. Hip-hop record executive Russell Simmons said encouraging people to register to vote was "one of the most American things we can do". "I think it is important that we get young people, black people, poor people, all the ones that are disenfranchised or that are not being spoken to by politics today," he said.

Eminem - April 25, 2002
In the wake of the Oasis album leaks, Eminems upcoming album, The Eminem Show, is being kept very quiet. According to nme.com, the album is under the tightest security of any album ever made. Although the record is closing in on its June 3rd release date, the album has only been heard by a small amount of people at Ems own record label, Shady Records. The Eminem Show has been kept even from the most trusted music journalists, and will not be made available to writers until the day of its official release.

Weezer - April 24, 2002
Weezer has been sued by co-founding member and former bassist Matt Sharp. Sharp is suing over the royalties for a number of songs including Weezers 1994 hit, Undone (The Sweater Song). The suit, which was filed last week in L.A. claims that Sharp owns an undivided 1/3 interest in and the copyright of Undone, and a quarter interest in all but one song on Weezers Pinkerton album. All the songs that are mentioned in the suit are registered as being written solely by lead singer, Rivers Cuomo. Sharp is asking that he be paid all the money that he is due as a co-owner of the songs. There has been no comment yet from Weezers spokesperson. Matt Sharp appeared on the first two Weezer albums, but left the group in 1998 due to differences, according to the suit.

Nickelback - April 23, 2002
Just two months after members of Nickelback were slapped with a lawsuit claiming they had broken a contract, three members from the band have filed their own lawsuit against their former manager. A writ was filed last week in the B.C. Supreme Court, claiming that Amar II Canada Productions Inc. and Clyde Hill, one of Amars principals, are illegally holding the master copy of an album called, Curb and that they plan to sell it to a third party. Chad and Michael Kroeger and Ryan Peake from Nickelback allege that they have lost income because the defendants have deprived them of using the album. According to Nickelbacks Canadian label, their most recent album Silver Side Up has sold more than six million copies worldwide.

Eminem - April 23, 2002
Eminem has reportedly just paid 100,000, thats over $225,000 Canadian, to keep Slim Shady looking real. According to dotmusic.com, next months edition of the Face magazine featuring Eminem had the rapper in a pink T-shirt on the front cover. Apparently the original photo had the rapper wearing a red T, but it ended up being digitally altered so as not to clash with the colour scheme of the front cover. Reports say Em bought every copy of the May edition in order to get them all destroyed before hitting newsstands next week. Reprints will now have to be made with a tougher looking Slim on the cover. According to worldpop.com, Eminem took the issue very seriously. He reportedly threatened to never enter the UK again if the copies werent destroyed.Eminem and Papa Roach are to tour together this summer, it has been announced. Dates for the as-yet-untitled tour have yet to be confirmed, though it's known that both Ludacris and the X-ecutioners will complete the line-up. A spokesperson for Papa Roach told MTV News that the tour would kick off in July. Both Eminem and Papa Roach are expected to preview new material on the tour, with both promoting major album releases in the coming months.
