MICAG NEWSLETTER No1 - May 2002 Welcome to the very first MICAG newsletter for 2002! In the newsletter we hope to bring you general messages and information for MICAG members. In the last six months we have seen the departure of several committee members who have relocated to other parts of the state. We also saw the resignation of our Administrative assistant. However we now have a full committee and have filled the Administrative Assistant position whom we welcome to the team. Birthdays?? - Just who is celebrating their birthdayy this month? A Birthday Chart will be displayed shortly (At MICAG office) and I would ask you to fill in the appropriate date and month that you celebrate your birthday so that we can include our best wishes to you. During April/May, some information seminars were held at Our Place. The first was held during Nation Heart Week and the slogan was " A healthy mind leads to a health heart". The session was run by Georgia (IMHS) and Angus (RFDS). It was information and well attended. Lisa (IMHS Nurse) tested peoples blood pressure and Adam spoke about relaxation techniques. A highlight was the health food and the stir fry that Angus cooked for everyone!! For members information a useful Internet site is www.geocities.com/mountisacag . The site has links to other mental health sites, information about the organisation, and news on Mount Isa Mental Health Services. The second seminar was conducted by Sam Reid from Mental Illness Fellowship of North Queensland and a mental health service consumer. The focus wan on understanding Mental Illness. Two sessions were held, one in the morning for MICAG Members and one in the evening for the general public. Again this was well attended and was found to be informative and interesting. Activities that MICAG members will be undertaking this month are as follows: a) Clean up o MICAG/Our Place. b) De-cluttering of the rear of premises and beautifying the front. c) Erection of Gazebo for smokers. Any contributions of help or ideas would be welcomed to help make MICAG/Our Place look more like a home away from home would be welcome. A working bee is currently in the planning to be held on the 8, 9, and 10 of June (long weekend) to start cleaning up t he premises - please feel free to join in !! If you have anything you would like to contribute to this newsletter, please advise MICAG prior to the 25th of each month. If you have anything to Buy/Sell or Give away, this can also be listed briefly. Until next newsletter…….Take Care and Be Happy!!!
