Even More Timeslips

These runs were made at Maryland International Raceway during the Mid atlantic F-Body's VVF Dragathon III on 31/OCT/98. It was an unusually warm day for Oct. with temps. in the 80's! Most of the runs were hot lapped with some of them coming with as little at 6 minutes between runs, so my times were not great. I did however make it through three rounds of eliminations before being eliminated by the eventual winner of the Camaro bracket.

The next three runs were during eliminations. I dialed 13.90 and as you can see I ran right on my dial-in in the first round. Since there was only about 20 min. between runs during elims. I should have raised my dial after the first run, but I stuck to my original 13.90 "Big Mistake" Oh well, you live and learn! I was lucky in the second round when my opponent ran under his dial and I won even though he beat me to the finish line.

.606 2.141 5.949 9.141 77.15 11.859 14.145 98.79

I was able to get three more runs after I was eliminated, but they were only 5 or 6 minutes apart and I missed third gear on the second one.

.605 2.113 5.908 9.139 76.36 11.870 14.170 98.39

All in all, not a bad day! If you throw out my second to last run where I missed third gear, I had thirteen runs and they were seperated by a total of .359! Three tenths seperating thirteen runs! I'd say that's pretty consistent in a 6 speed manual.

Cool weather is back!!

The very next Friday 6/NOV/98, I was at Cecil County for Friday Night Grudge Racing. The weather was great! First run it was 45 degrees with 53% humidity. For these runs I had installed an Accel 300+ ignition. I'm don't think it helped my E/T's but I definitely noticed a smoother idle and better throttle response. But then again you never know since this was the first time ever that all my runs were in the 13's!! I also broke the 103 MPH barrier for the first time!

.669 2.094 5.776 8.814 81.29 11.411 13.603 103.19

At this point I realized that I did not have enough gas to get home. I also was not sure I had enough to get to the nearest gas station, so these last two runs were made with four gallons of Sunoco 110 octane unleaded race fuel in the tank. By the last run of the night the temperature had fallen to 41 degrees with 66% humidity. When it was all said and done I had a new quick E/T and a new top speed!

One last time before winter!

These were at Cecil County 13/NOV/98. The last Friday Night Grudge Racing of the season, and soon time to put the SS away and get out my ski's. The weather was cold! It was 49 degrees for the first run, and down to 37 degrees for the last run. The humidity was anywhere from 89% to 95% I had purchased and installed a Hypertech Power Programmer Plus w/160 degree thermostat and an Auto Meter shift light. during the previous week and I made several of the runs with the Hypertech Scan Tool hooked up looking for knock retard. I found that I was getting as much as 6 degrees of knock retard just before my shift point of 5700 RPM. I am convinced that this is false knock, since the ambient air temp was around 40 degrees, the coolant temperature was below 160 degrees, and I was running with almost nothing but Sunoco 104 Octane racing fuel in the tank. I have since purchased an LT4 knock module which I will test the first time I go to the track next year.

R/T 60' 330' 1/8 MPH 1000' 1/4 MPH

.670 2.074 5.744 8.767 81.59 11.351 13.536 103.27

The shift light definitely made my shifts a lot more consistent. I made six runs and the worst one was 13.8 and that was because of a bad 60' As you can see from the highlighted times I had three 13.5's and a new top speed of just .006 under 104! I'm sure some of this can be attributed to the cool weather, but I'm still happy and can't wait to get to the track next year once ski season is over. Until then SSEE YA!!
