            Cemetery.  In most records his name is Gideon, but in a few he
            appears as George. After the Civil War, he served as a trooper
            in Company D, 19th Kansas Cavalry. He applied for a pension
            based on his military service, claiming that he had become an
            invalid. He returned to DC where he was confined to an asylum.
            He and his family were separated in the 1900 DC Census. He died
            in the asylum. Gideon and his wife were initially buried at the
            Congressional Cemetery, Lot 3-247. On March 22, 1924, their
            remains were moved to Arlington Nat. Cemetery.


Third Generation

   Perry married Susannah at the Ryland Street Methodist Episcopal Church
   in DC. Perry served as a private in Company C, 6th Battalion, DC
   Infantry during the Civil War and received a pension based on that
   service.

   Cemetery.  Josephine died 19-Feb-1925, Chelsea, Rogers Co, OK, buried:
   21-Feb-1925, Chelsea OK, Chelsea Cemetery.  Josephine died of "rose"
   cancer. It was manifested as a place on her forehead about the size of a
   silver dollar. In the 1900 Galena KS census, it says that Josephine had
   8 children, and at the time, only 4 were living. At this time, we only
   know names for 5 of them. Hercules: Hercules worked with the War
   Department until the Civil War. He fought with the Union (enlisted in
   Columbus OH in Company B, 6th Regiment, US Cavalry on 5-Aug-1861). He
   was captured by the South and imprisoned at Libby Prison, in Richmond VA
   until the war was over. He was discharged from the Army in Washington
   DC, on 18-Feb-1864. He had attained the rank of Sergeant. On
   10-Aug-1891, he applied for a disability pension in Galena, Cherokee Co,
   Kansas.

            Gertie is mentioned in the 1880 census of Warren County,
            Missouri. She is NOT listed with Hercules' other children in
            his pension questionnaire of January, 1898. In the 1900 Galena
            KS census, Gertie's mother is listed as having only 4 living
            children, which would indicate Gertie was already dead.

   1-Jul-1928, Chelsea, Rogers Co, OK, buried: Chelsea OK, Chelsea
   Cemetery. Ralph's death certificate says that he hung himself, but the
   family believes that he was murdered. One person, who knew the family,
   says "your grandfather [Ralph] was to go to Arkansas with 4 men - one
   was Charlie Ervin, one Weaver Steeber. Did not know other men's names.
   She relates "your grandad had a mason ring and money in a box - ring and
   money both missing when he was found". She remembered the medical people
   feel he was dead before hanged - because neck not broken." His
   gravestone says "Band 7 Regt of Cav" "Sp Am War". An article from a
   10-Nov-1921 newspaper says "he served 4 years in the army, went thru the
   Spanish American War, stayed in Cuba until he looked like an oriental".
   The article goes on to say he opened a tailor shop in Chelsea 15 years
   before, having only 50 cents in his pocket. He had a farm where he
   gardened, and had mules and horses he sold from annually. Rose: Rose
   died at 8:00 on a Saturday morning, having suffered 2 months with cancer
   of the colon.

            Galena, KS.  According to a letter to Rose Marie Carroll Paden,
            dated Dec 26, 1980, Mary Jo Carroll Henson indicates that her
            brother, Ralph, was 10 when he died, and had been dead for 7
            years when she was born.

   friends with a Mr. Clarence E. Martin (no relation to Jenny Carroll's
   husband) who owned a Western Auto in 1940. Mr. Martin commented that
   Gideon would pass through his store on his way to his tailor shop to ask
   how things were going. Mr. Martin also noted that Gideon made 2 suits
   for him.
