Walter died 21-Mar-1951, Brownfield, Terry Co, TEX, buried: 23-Mar-1951, Terry Co TX, Terry Co Memorial Cemetery. Walter gave his kids a first name and middle initial at birth, so the children could pick their own middle name later. Walter's death certificate says his birth year is 1884, but, in the 1900 census, his father says he was born in 1885. I agree with the older record. 5. Ralph Winfield Carroll b. 4-Dec-1871, Daviess Co, MO, occupation Farmer, Tailor, Musician, m. (1) 10-Jun-1905, in Columbus, Cherokee Co, KS, Louise Elizabeth John, m. (2) 8-Jul-1923, in Stigler, Haskell Co, OK, Rose Bessie Lynch. Ralph died 1-Jul-1928, Chelsea, Rogers Co, OK, buried: Chelsea OK, Chelsea Cemetery. Ralph's death certificate says that he hung himself, but the family believes that he was murdered. One person, who knew the family, says "your grandfather [Ralph] was to go to Arkansas with 4 men - one was Charlie Ervin, one Weaver Steeber. Did not know other men's names. She relates "your grandad had a mason ring and money in a box - ring and money both missing when he was found". She remembered the medical people feel he was dead before hanged - because neck not broken." His gravestone says "Band 7 Regt of Cav" "Sp Am War". An article from a 10-Nov-1921 newspaper says "he served 4 years in the army, went thru the Spanish American War, stayed in Cuba until he looked like an oriental". The article goes on to say he opened a tailor shop in Chelsea 15 years before, having only 50 cents in his pocket. He had a farm where he gardened, and had mules and horses he sold from annually. 7. Ralph: Ralph's death certificate says that he hung himself, but the family believes that he was murdered. Hercules Christopher Guy Carroll b. 2-Nov-1828, Painesville, Geauga Co, OH, occupation Soldier, tailor, m. 29-Jul-1863, in Washington DC, Josephine M. Ports. Hercules died 7-May-1906, Tulsa OK (at Kate's home), buried: Tulsa OK, Oak Lawn Cemetery. Hercules worked with the War Department until the Civil War. He fought with the Union (enlisted in Columbus OH in Company B, 6th Regiment, US Cavalry on 5-Aug-1861). He was captured by the South and imprisoned at Libby Prison, in Richmond VA until the war was over. He was discharged from the Army in Washington DC, on 18-Feb-1864. He had attained the rank of Sergeant. On 10-Aug-1891, he applied for a disability pension in Galena, Cherokee Co, Kansas. Josephine: Josephine died of "rose" cancer. It was manifested as a place on her forehead about the size of a silver dollar. In the 1900 Galena KS census, it says that Josephine had 8 children, and at the time, only 4 were living. At this time, we only know names for 5 of them. 13. Josephine M. It was manifested as a place on her forehead about the size of a silver dollar. In the 1900 Galena KS census, it says that Josephine had 8 children, and at the time, only 4 were living. The 1880 Missouri census says that Hercules' father was born in Indiana or Louisiana (hard to distinguish). According to the 1900 Kansas census, he was from New Hampshire, and Hercules' mother was born in Ohio. Of the Carrolls in the 1840 census for Concord, Lake Co., Ohio ... Daniel Carrell, Wirt Carrell, and Hercules Carrell each had one male child, age 10-15, and our Hercules would be 12 at the time. 26. Adam Ports b. 1806, Pipe Creek Hundred, Balt. Johan died 8-Feb-1816, buried: Manchester MD, Manchester Cemetery. Johan was raised on a farm just east of the old Hanover Turnpike near St. David's (or Sherman's) Lutheran Church in West Manheim Township. His tombstone is inscribed entirely in German. His will was recorded in Baltimore County Will Book 9, page 529. The administration of his estate was filed in Administration Account Book 20, page 475. John spelled his name "Peden" in his family Bible, which is in the possesion of Mrs. David (Peden) McFarlin of Franklin, KY. The Bible was printed by Mark and Charles Kerr, Edinburgh, Scotland, His Majesty's Printers, 1789. The Peden family was from Ayrshire, Scotland. They probably arrived in America circa 1770-72 via Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. John settled in Augusta County, Virginia in 1774, then moved to Botetourt County VA in 1779. John served in the Revolutionary War under Capt Anderson, Augusta Co, Va. 129. Mary Smith b. 13-Dec-1734, d. 3-Jan-1806. 212. Valentine Wentz b. 10-Jul-1717, Partenheim, Germany, m. 11-Sep-1749, in Upper Salford Twp, Philadelphia Co, PA, Maria Barbara Jenewein. Valentine died 1-Apr-1788, buried: St. David's Church. Valentine came to America on the ship "Loyal Judith", which landed at Philadelphia on 2-Sep-1743. After his marriage to Maria, he moved to York Co, near the Maryland border, in the vicinity of Lineboro MD. His farm was surveyed by Mason and Dixon when they surveyed the boundary in 1765. He was an early member of St. David's Church. Valentine had at least 2 brothers who left Germany for Pennsylvania. Johan Philip, born c.1709, and Frederick, born c.1730. (1) 4-May-1752, in York PA, Christ Lutheran Church, Anna Catherina Zimmerman, m. (2) Maria Margaretha *Unknown. Ludwig died 3-Mar-1784. Ludwig came frm Germany on the ship "Isaac", which landed in Philadelphia on 27-Sep-1749. Soon after his marriage to Anna, the settled on a farm in Codorus Township, not far from the Old Stone Church, where many of their children were baptized. 215. Anna Catherina Zimmerman d. c.1767-68.

About 1680, Leonardous migrated from Lohn, Zell Am Ziller, Tyrol to Neunkirchen, Saarland, where he became a coach driver at the castle. In 1707 he was listed as a Lutheran. In 1741, his widow was listed as an Evangelical. In one record, he is called the son of Peter Genewein of Lohn in Tyrol. 853. Anna Elisabetha Dink (or Dick).
