First Generation

1.*Hercules Christopher Guy Carroll b. 2-Nov-1828, Painesville, Geauga
Co, OH, occupation: Soldier, tailor, m. 29-Jul-1863, in Washington DC,
Josephine M. Ports, b. 17-Sep-1845, 13 miles from Baltimore MD (Grey
Rock?), (daughter of Adam Ports and Elizabeth Frizzell) d. 19-Feb-1925,
Chelsea, Rogers Co, OK, buried: 21-Feb-1925, Chelsea OK, Chelsea Cemetery.
Hercules died 7-May-1906, Tulsa OK (at Kate's home), buried: Tulsa OK, Oak
Lawn Cemetery. Hercules worked with the War Department until the Civil
War. He fought with the Union (enlisted in Columbus OH in Company B, 6th
Regiment, US Cavalry on 5-Aug-1861). He was captured by the South and
imprisoned at Libby Prison, in Richmond VA until the war was over. He was
discharged from the Army in Washington DC, on 18-Feb-1864. He had attained
the rank of Sergeant. On 10-Aug-1891, he applied for a disability pension
   in Galena, Cherokee Co, Kansas.
Josephine: Josephine died of "rose" cancer. It was manifested as a place on
her forehead about the size of a silver dollar. In the 1900 Galena KS
census, it says that Josephine had 8 children, and at the time, only 4 were
living. At this time, we only know names for 5 of them.
            Children:
    2. i Christopher Guy Carroll b. 14-Jan-1869.

    5. iv Kate Carroll b. 30-Dec-1874.
       v Gertie Carroll b. 1878, d. Before 1898. Gertie is
mentioned in the 1880 census of Warren County, Missouri. She
is NOT listed with Hercules' other children in his pension
questionnaire of January, 1898. In the 1900 Galena KS census,
Gertie's mother is listed as having only 4 living children,
which would indicate Gertie was already dead.
