Derek Acorah is Most Haunted's spiritual medium. A medium is a person who believes that they can communicate with the spirits of people who have passed over to the other side after death. He has a spirit guide called Sam who he claims to have met in a past life. An essential part of the Most Haunted team, Derek has no prior knowledge of the place the team is heading.

Once he arrives Derek soon picks up on the ghostly inhabitants of the location and gives the team valuable information on who the spirit person is and why they are still coming back from the other side.
